My wife dropped her laptop bag and her 2370 got bumped pretty hard. Other than both battery tabs breaking off - which I can glue back on - the dvdrw drive does not sit flush and it will not read discs nor show up as a drive letter in XP. It apparently can spin up just fine, so power isn't a problem.

I would like to try reseating the drive first, but I have no idea how to even get to it. Does anyone have experience/ instructions here? Also, if anyone has a spare dvdrw drive, I'd consider buying it if things come to that.

    Thanks

Remove the RAM. This will expose a screw that goes into the back of the optical drive. Once your remove the screw, you should be able to free the optical drive. It is generally a pretty snug fit and takes a firm steady pull to extract it.

I take it you mean to remove the back cover that gives access to the ram. Beneath the ram itself there is no screw, but located near the internal wireless card there is a single horizontal screw that points in the direction of dvdram drive. I assume this is the screw you were referring to.

Just remove and push/pull? Is there any other screw securing the drive? Any recommended way to grip the drive itself as I attempt to pull it out?

    thanks

try opening the dvd rom drive and pulling on the tray, be careful as there is a ribbon cable connecting the drive to the laptop in most cases that is not so long
