The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

Looks like they had a hard drive failure, we know that pain as it's happened to our servers before, it's not fun. Best of luck to them.

In RAID 0 if one of the HDs fails you lose the data on both, why would you like that? I think you mean RAID 1 :p

A week later and still down :(

This kills me, that was THE PLACE, about the only place with a good averatec archive. Hopefully things will pickup around here :)

It's sad if they don't come back :( It is/was a good forum for Averatec users...as I type this from my 2260-EH1.

    I miss the forums. :(

I had just asked a user there about his Averatec 1579 and the forum goes down two hours later, just my luck. Will they ever come back?

No idea. I hope so. Anyone know the admin over there or his email?? It would be neat if he would refer people over here in the mean time.

Yup still down, and some of us do know about this forum ;)

I've been watching the site because Averatec FINALLY sent me my upgrade disc for Vista.

It's a clear box that looks like something I'd buy a bootleg DVD out of it. The label is a generic white label without logo other than "averatec blah blah" in a plain font.

Good to know it took them almost a YEAR for this incredibly complicated upgrade DVD.

Anyone know the email for "scottinco"? He was pretty much the only moderator on the site regularly.

It's actually "scottyinco" and I found another board where he is a member:
    http://www.r6messagenet.com/forums/member.php?u=4324

If someone would join that board and send him a pm that might yield some results.

You can do a lookup at register.com and see that averatecforums.com is registered to Han Er, in NY. It even lists a phone number if anybody wants to call him. :) I miss the forum too, even though I only have one Averatec left in my aresenal of laptops.

Uh oh, you found me! Unfortunately I'm only a lowly moderator at averatecforums.com. I could only move, edit and delete messages, and block users. But the nuts and bolts of it are handled by haner, and I don't have any more contact information from him than what is available through his domain registration. :(

I just noticed the other day that the site was down. Very odd issues surrounding it. Some of you may remember me as 'stevelam' from the board. Anyway I went ahead and decided to create another averatec site here http://www.averatec-forums.com in case anyone needs a more 'dedicated' forum for averatec gear. Hope to see some of the old regulars return.

i cannot seem to register on your site, stevelam. the "Register" button never undims after checking the "I Agree" box. i've tried in both ie7 and firefox.

We've all given up hope on it. An enterprising former user has started his own unofficial Averatec forum at:
    www.averatec-forums.com
    Join us over there.

Some users have been able to resurrect old posts by going into Google cache, (I think that's it) but I don't know how they do that.

It does not surprise me that those forums are down...they've been down for a long long time.

Just means they've stopped paying the bill to keep that webpage saying "we'll be back!" finally down. Truth is now out...they aren't coming back.

    Sorry guys.

I can't tell you how many times I checked the old Averatec Forums in the last year hoping that they would return. These forums look great and I guess they'll help me decide on my next computer (probably not an Averatec).

This is a new averatec forum that was working up until about a week ago. Just like the old forum, it suddenly disappeared without any warning. I guess it may have met the same fate as the old averatec forum :-(

If you're interested, please head over to averatec.net23.net to see if enough oldies can be found to be reunited. Please let anyone else you know who might be interested as well.

Have there been any successful attempts to resurrect the support forums? If not, and there is still interest, please head over to averatec.net23.net to see if there is critical mass to continue. Please let anyone else you know who might be interested as well.
