Howdy y'all. I am looking for a notebook computer to purchase, and my father will only let me purchase them from local retailers since he doesn't trust checks, credit card transfers, etc. due to the fact of people he has known having their bank accounts drained.

Don't discuss the above, but I am looking at two gaming notebook computers from Circuit City.

Now I have heard that iBUYPOWER quality control is bad, stories such as
*notebook crashing after 3 weeks of use
    *parts put the wrong way

However, I have had a friend from school who says that those computers are really good, and he got his computer fixed at a iBUYPOWER repair facility 45 minutes away. However, he told me that he installed a new fan to cool the video card. If the quality control is that bad, then I won't purchase it.

Now, this website has links to reviews on the Velocity Micro notebook computer. I believe that I have not seen bad quality control reports lately. I don't know much about it, yet if the first notebook computer has bad quality control, then I will purchase this one.

    budget: less than $2000
*don't tell me to purchase one on the internet
*those notebook computers are the highest priced gaming notebooks
*I checked Best Buy... the video cards suck

I don't need you to look at the specs. The links were there as a visual aide. I just need to know both companies quality control.

I have no knowledge of IBUYPOWER, other than what I've read at sites such as ResellerRatings.com. However, I have an old VM desktop which, except for a video card which blew a couple of years ago (replaced under warranty with a better card), has worked perfectly since May 2004. VM builds great machines, and in my experience, the service has been excellent.

Just to be fair with this response though: VM is definitely not the cheapest company from which to buy. IMO, the quality of VM's workmanship and its service make up for the added price.

Thanks bmwrob. All I care about is whether the parts are put together correctly. I'm leaning towards purchasing a Velocity Micro notebook computer now.

unfortunately i have heard a lot of bad things about IBUYPOWER, but not everybody had a bad experience with them though, you might get a good deal from them, depends on how lucky you are :)
