hey. after installing xp and the drivers- everything was whipping along nicely. i would boot in under 40 sec and be connected to the interweb pretty much right off the bat.
dunno what happened, but now intel proset/wireless is slow to start. it's pretty much slow to do anything. connecting to the internet takes about 1 minute AFTER boot where it used to connect in about 3-5 seconds? yikes. also weird is that is takes about 1-2 minutes to open the proset graphical user interface from the taskbar. way slow!
i've scanned for malware/adware/viruses with spybot search and destroy, ad-aware, and avast, uninstalled/reinstalled both the driver for the wireless card and intel proset. no dice. any ideas?
edit: man, wish they would allow us to delete our own posts. i got rid of the intel pro/wireless software and the problem is gone. weird. moderators feel free to erase this useless thread if you wish. word.

No, it's good to leave this up to let people who also have the same problem to have something to help them.
I personally never install any of the software wireless adapters come with - not even intel's. Windows does a fine job of connecting and keeping tack of my wireless profiles.
If you connect to multiple static IP sites that are completely different, my work place uses a program called Multi Network Manager (google it). It works pretty good. I don't use the portion that connects to the wireless sites though (I tell it to use Microsoft's built in wireless applet), but only use Multi Network Manager to change the IPs depending on the profile the user chooses. -
Yeah, it's best to keep use the option "Let Windows to manage Wi-Fi".
The Proset software has memory leak problems, less secure than windows itself AFAIK and it's not worth the trouble. -
yeah- intel's software sucked. strange that it connected fast at first, and then crapped out. but lesson learned!
ifl-90 intel proset slow as molasses?
