Noisy? Like spinning fast with loud humming/spinning noise?
Clean the disc tray, see if it helps.

normally when a cd dvd drive starts to sound like its making crazy noise its either something stuck in or on the inside of the drive or disc.. or the drive is on its way out... hate to say but usually number 2..

Really? Cuz mine spins up like you wouldn't believe... It actually vibrates my laptop/desk and sounds like a motorcycle engine or something.

I think it's working fine though. No problems installing WCIII, but I should probably check the burner capabilities.

Also, not to hijack, but it beeps when it stops and when it opens. That's normal for this DVD RW, right?

I would love to lay my fingers on Pioneer Slim DVD-RW.
Because they use the Slot-loading type of mechanism instead of tray-loading.

Pioneer DVR-K05 8X Slim DVD Drive for Laptop(186-133), Slot Loading Type DVD Burner for Notebook, PC and MAC Laptops, Free DVD Burning Software (196-045)
    Item Code: 186-180-001

My bad, that's not really how it looks.

Go here, this is the exact drive I have in mind.
A great drive, and unique look.
