My ifl90 is overheating because the fan is very odd. it stops working on full power when the temp gets over 68c.
the problem started when my 8600gt died and i replaced it with a hd 3470.
the new card runs a lot cooler than the 8600gt it even runs cooler than the cpus however the cooling fan seems fine untill it reaches 68c when it stops running so then the temp always stays over 68c as the fan wont bring the temp down and overheats if i put too much load on the cpu.
I have tryed undervolting and throtling to try and keep the temps under 68c but i have to throtle too much.
Is there any way i can alter the fan speeds my self or can anyone think of an alternative solution

    Hi,

which BIOS are you running on?

Update to 1.18 if you are not running it already.

At least 1.10 (maybe later one too) failed in this scenario for me to - but temps were 90° and 80° respectively on two different machines.

    Good luck!

thanks for the reply not sure what bios im running i havent changed it in nearly 4 years so not very up to date. Are there many more features in the later bios ie overclocking and voltage adjustments and fan speed options?

No, just bug fixes. But I really urge you to upgrade if you have an old one.

Actually, what I told you was not completely right, I mixed up things. For me, the CPU fan would stop prior to 1.10 if temps of the CPU would hit 80° or 90° degree, respectively, on two different machines running 1.10.

I'd try an update. I am not the one who thinks BIOS updates are the number one solution, more the opposite, but in this case, it is the proper solution (I hope).

I used the ROM image from here. Be sure to take 1.18, and NOT 1.19, which is buggy.

Caution: the site plays music ... which I don't like, but the ROM works great.

    Good luck!

Dr.Colossos also advised me to update the bios to 1.18 and have to say it still works like a charm!

Uh, or you could try to see if the fan is broken?
