2 things are happening that im not sure are supposed to happen:

    1. it gets pretty warm when running apps...i heard this thing doesnt get warm at all?

    2. when i put it on super performance the screen flickers a little, do u think updating drivers for the screen would help? if so, where?

Anyone have any comments on these things?

Also, does anyone know how I can close the laptop without it automatically going into hybernate?

And, does anyone know where I can manually change the settings for each of the different power settings?

    Thanks to everyone.

I assume you are referring to the MX- you have to keep in mind that warmth is relative; it does get warm, but not as hot as the W3V. All laptops will get warm, but some get really hot (making the word laptop a misnomer). Heat varies with use and battery versus AC (I don't know why, but I know my UX gets much warmer when on AC, probably because using a higher performance mode).
Do you mean there is a slight flicker when switching into super performance, or the screen constantly flickers while in that mode? If it is flickering while in the mode you should talk to Portableone about that, but a change in power settings could cause a slight initial flicker; as long as the screen remains stable while in the mode I wouldn't worry about it.
The other questions are beyond me...I know laptops generally go into hibernate when closed to save battery- perhaps (and this is a guess) if you didn't want it to hibernate at all you could disable the hibernate feature in power options (control panel-power options-click on hibernate tab- uncheck enable hibernation). I know in power options there is a setting for the power4 gear, but I don't think there is one for each of the different power settings. The best way to get a definitive answer is to email Portableone- they're sure to get back to you Monday morning, or give them a ring on Monday (unless better brains than mine answer your questions in the interim).

Hope you are enjoying your new machine. Why would you not want the unit to go into hibernation when closing lid? Would you rather have standby activate when you close the lid, which a key mistakenly being depressed or some other program/app’s re-activating machine without you knowing causing other issues, or do nothing and the possibility of your machine being left on unattended? The units are setup to do such to protect it, but if you want to change you can do so by going into advanced power options and change the “when I close my lid” action.

As for Power4Gear, depending on which mode you are changing from, you will see changes because the CPU could be stepping up or down, changing resolutions and/or brightness etc, if you rather not use Power4Gear pre-set settings you can change that in the power options as well. Power4Gear will also remember settings such as your last saved mode profile. For example, you are in Super Performance mode but 100% brightness is too bright for you, so you scale back brightness to 80% and later you turn off computer. The next time you turn your system on and select Super Performance it will remember your 80% brightness level and the same goes for the other modes.

So what was the answer to the screen flicker problem? I just ordered an MX and would sure like to know about that. Thanks
