Generally, I think Alienware's are well built, and good machines. But obviously , all companies have some notebooks which don't conform to the normal. Compal is also a very good notebook builder. Very strong and powerful notebooks.

Everyone has bad machines. Its how the company deals with it that counts. AW isn't the best with customer service, but isn't as bad as everyone claims. Remember that only the bad things, and the problems get talked about, no one really says how much they love their machine, and how perfectly it works.

I have to agree, Alienware is so popular that there are more horror stories, and since poeple say so much more, the horror stories get magnified due to rage on the consumers part. The bad customer service only makes it worse.

Yea, plus I think I heard some ware that either AW or Voodoo uses the HEL80 as one of their lineup.

The thing is, Alienware uses SLI and RAID, because those are things enthusiasts are looking for. There are no advancements at the moment tht are going to bring a considerable speed increase to notebooks, but the current generation of components are still deadly fast. Thats why, almost all of Alienware notebooks use Core 2 Duo of Turion, because they are fast. Now, theres no need to put some massively power hungry desktop processor in a notebook.

Look at other manufacturers, and see what they have for performance needs. For example, Sager offers SLI in some ot its notebooks, and has RAID in almost all 17" notebooks. Since actual tecnologies can't be changed, (like slow hard drives), amnufacturers try to make the best of what they already have.
