Anyone how to upgrade the memory in a averatec 6240? I would like to increase it to 1gig and ddr400 if possible.

You just need two 512MB chips to insert. It's one of the easiest upgrades out there.

I upgraded to a gig of 3200 on my 6130...if it was any easier the memory sticks would have crawled into the laptop and seated themselves!
Kidding abot that...but truthfully, it is as easier than swapping memory in a PC.
Somewhere in these posts is a picture of the backside/internals that may help. -

Unfortunately not.
p06781, look for the panel on the bottom held on with 3 screws in a triangular arrangement. The 2 SODIMMs are underneath this panel. -
Is the memory install procedure the same for a 6100 series? And on a side note, where can one actaully BUY memory for a 6100. Crucial.com doesn't even have the 6100 listed??? I'm looking to go to at LEAST a gig of ram. Any suggestions?

PC2700 or PC3200 non-ECC 64bit 2.5V CL2.5 200 pin SODIMMs, up to 2GB total

Any brands to avoid or pref. brands???
1 GIG
I have found prices for that memory ranging anywhere from $159.00 Outpost.com - Frys (sounds a bit too cheap to me)
$669.00 Kingston Memory... Um $669 are you kidding me...
Any recomendations? I'm tempted to try the $159 if they have it IN STORE as if it dosen't work I can just return it. My worry is that if it is unreliable then I may not know till it is too late..and I am looking for preformance out of this thing for light gaming.. I have yet to see it... -

GO check out newegg.com ... they have great prices on memory and a decent selection as well. I picked up 2 512 sticks of Crucial for about 120 each...and my 6130 is SMOKIN!
...next is a 7200 rpm HD...[]

Damage:
Was it easy to install? Are both banks easy to get too? I'm a bit nervous about it... -
just be sure to ground yourself before handling the ram, otherwise you can damage the chips and decrease the memory capacity or if the charge is big enough flat out destroy the ram, but that is unlikely. I've found ram to be quite resislent to physical stress, outside of static charges, i feel that ram is quite strong. In notebooks i believe that they position the ram chips so that they are easy to get to so that they are easy to change, in the 6100 series you can see them through the heat exchanger grates on the bottom. They are quite easy to change, however i haven't touched them yet, i've played with the ram in my desktop lots of times and haven't hurt them yet.[

this is a 6130-h1
two 256 chips, you'll need to discard one or allo of them if you'd like to increase to 768 or 1gig. The chips are acessible by removing a couple of screws, giving you access to mostly everything (ram, hard drive, mini-pci) this does not void you warranty. -
I have done it on other laptops and my desktop countless times. Im more worried about the 6100 Series Laptop in particular...where it is located? are both banks user avail. to the user without taking the thing apart?

Look up in this string and locate the hyperlink I posted. Someone was kind enough to take a picture of the 6130 sans backplate...it shows the memory on the left center. The removal of that plate, and the instalation of the memory is VERY easy. I did a upgrade to a gig (2 x 512 sticks) as soon as i got this.
As with any computer, make sure ALL power supplies are disconnected/removed and GROUND YOURSELF!! Be gentle with the sticks, as they fold up about 45 degrees before they can be removed. If I remember correctly, the manual for the 6130 from Averatec's site. I do believe it explains how to do this as well.
Good luck! -
One more memory question????
128x64 or 64x64 dimm. I assume it will make a difference.
