    hello again!

i'm ordering my zepto on friday and have one final question!

    the "Toshiba HD-DVD 6xxx/3xxx" is it a dvd-rw?

or do i have to forefit writing dvd's to watch HD dvd movies?

what would you reccomend? i imagine HD-DVD/DVD-RW hybrid drives (if thats what it is) are still in their infancy and have issues? am i right in thinking this?

    Thanks
    P

Doesn't the hd-dvd cost like $400 more? Not worth it in my opinion

First, there's a red mark against the availability of the HD optical drive, which means that there's some uncertainty about when it will come into stock so you order may get delayed.

Second, unless there's something very unusual in the design of this notebook, the optical drives are easily replaced in the future when the hardware is much more affordable and you are more certain that you need the HD functionality.

I understand that the HD is additional functionality on top of the normal DVD / CD read/write.

Go to the configuration and click on "
Toshiba HD-DVD 6xxx/3xxx " then you will get to here. I think the "over 12 days" means "on its way but not sure when it will arrive".

The toshiba HD DVD drive is now out of stock. We had limited stock a couple of days ago. I have checked but the next intake date has not appeared as of yet. The drive is a player only. It has NO recording facilities

Do you know the model number of this HD drive so we can check the specs?

I was assuming that it would read HD but read / write DVD and CD. A bit like the drives of a few years back which would play a DVD but read and write CDs.

The specs of the TS-L802A are here:

It appears from the specs here that the SD-L902A adds HD write capability.

The TS prefix means its the joint Toshiba-Samsung factory. I'm not sure about SD.
