I can't seem to get my ethernet adapter to work correctly in vista. It works fine in XP (dual boot) but the driver will not load in vista. I get a code 10 error. I have tried the latest drivers from nVidia to no avail.

Google has not really turned up anything helpful. The only thing I could fine was to try installing a generic windows driver for the network adapter.

So, I tried to uninstall the adapter to see if it would load a generic windows vista driver but it keeps installing as nvidia nforce network controller.

I can only get it to uninstall in safe mode. If I try to manually install it using "add hardware," it does not show up as an option. If I restart, it adds hardware as nvidia nforce network controller.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is their a fix or work-around?

It appears, I've found a work around. Shutdown and then power back on. Restarting doesn't not work. It has to power off completely and then power back on. I typically use hibernate or restart.

If the power cycle works for you great!. It never worked for me (and believe me I tried). Are you using DHCP or a fixed IP address?

All I can say is, once I upgraded the BIOS, this issue among several disappeared; and this is the one that drove me bonkers!

It seems to be working so far. The problem occurs randomly (like when I'm in a hotel that does not have wireless and I have work that has to get done!). Disabling/enabling/reinstalling, etc never worked. Restarting never worked. Turning power off and then back on seems to be working so far.

I also just started using StartRight which manages the timing of startup items

I read somewhere that the start-up sequence could be causing the problem.

I have suspected not start-up sequence per se, but how much is simultaneously happening. With the processor locked down to half-speed at that point, the driver could very well bomb waiting for an OS response.

Hasn't locked even once since the BIOS change...

Yeah, I agree. That's what directed me to StartRight.

I wonder when averatec is going to release driver support for the 2371. It seems like they should be up on their support site by now.
