here's the problem. i formatted the computer and accidentally deleted the partition with the backup files on it. now i want to revert to the factory os and settings but dont have the files. i contacted averatec but they want me to ship the computer to them. can someone make recovery discs for me on their AV3715-EH1 and send it to me please? i'll be willing to pay for the cost of the discs, time, and shipping. thanks a lot

I bought one of these computers last week & the recovery files appear to be stored on a hidden 2 gig FAT partition. You sure you deleted this partition such that you can't use the phoenix recovery tools?

Too bad you don't have an XP home or pro OS CD. That was the first thing I did when I bought my Averatec 3270. I deleted both partitions including their dam Phoenix recovery crap and installed XP Pro. Laptop runs much better now. Runs cooler and has more space on the HD for me! 8)

That is ridiculous, even more ridiculous than not giving us restoration disks to begin with. When I had problems with my Dell PC, and the restoration junk was installed improperly by Dell so it did not work, they sent me restoration disks.

The disks will sure be cheaper than all the labor and shipping costs involved, not to mention lost time.

If I ever have OS problems, I'm going to install Windows XP that I bought for my previous computer which was put out to pasture.

Averatec cannot possibly provide us with recovery media. The only thing the repair center knows how to do is wipe the HDD. If we do this ourselves at home, they repair folks are out of business ;)

so true, the techs seem to think that restoring the computer will fix everything, even if its a hardware issue and not a software issue. Plus the fact that, for some at least, when you talk to them, they either don't have a clue as to what you are talking about, or don't really listen to you and think that they are right.
