lappy arrived on Tuesday, here in the UK
installed vista64 Business myself - all plain sailing :)

today, was plugged into wall, used it for a while, then left it running while talking to someone. Went to look at laptop and screen dead. Heat coming from exhaust, but no HDD sounds / activity, PLUS the power button was off. Still showed blue led on left front (lan or whatever it's for)

removed external power, reseated battery, but it won't power up. Shows 2 blue LEDs for power and lan, but main power button will not light up. No other activity, no HDD, though heats starts to come through exhaust.

any ideas? Almost like in hibernation, but no HDD activity etc makes me think the worst..........

FWIW, have tried Fn & all FN buttons but no help

(installed the Nvidia drivers from the CD today, before this happened, and they worked fine - ie. I played the vista 3D chess - though I think it's not related.)

    :(

I wonder whether the RAM isn't seated properly - it was just about OK as supplied but warning up has resulted in a dropped connection. Badly seated RAM can cause the computer to appear dead when trying to boot.

Are you willing / able to remove the cover on the bottom and remove and replace the RAM, pushing it firmly in the slot as you clip it down. If that doesn't work then I would try each module separately (assuming you have two). And if that doesn't work then I'm short of other suggestions.

tried reseating the single ram stick - no difference

main clue, for me, is that no power comes on, other than the 2 LEDs. Am assuming it's something fundamental, eg PSU inside

    thanks for all advice

tried to hold down the power button when the leds are on? try removing you battery and then pressing the power button to get the power out of all the condensators, then try to power it up without battery, then without hdd. Will the DVD-station power up if you put a cd in it or will it even open?

done. no help. only consequence is LEDs turn off after 4 seconds (as expected)

tried - no difference, though not without HDD. I don't know how to disable the HDD.

no. Does not power up. Can't open the DVD drive at all.

    :(

Back luck. I hope it doesn't take too long to fix and return.

I hope we will get to know what the problem is.

Fuddam : the good thing (less bad?) is that Zepto customer support appears to be very professional. From what I've seen so far.

no can do. Zepto gave me a new one instead, since it was less than a week old, and waiting around for repairs would possibly have taken too long - it was within grace period for complete refund etc.

    :)
