That's an awesome notebook! Question: why go pro-star and not sager? Same thing, but I would think better support.

Also, the performance will be crazy but it's a huge notebook - i wouldn't take it to class!

I would get it from PowerNotebooks.com - I ordered my Sager there and they had the best prices and service. Check their rating on resellerratings.com.

Configuration looks nice, however I'd scale that 2.13 processor back to a 2.0 - you'll save a bundle of money that way and you won't notice a performance increase anyway with the 2.13 over the 2.0.

Also are you sure you need 2GB of RAM? I'd go with a single 1GB stick now, and then upgrade when you feel it's necessary.

    Other than that....very cool!

Looks a lot like the 5720 I ordered from DiscountLaptops.com. I agree with Chaz on scaling back the processor. The performance differences are minimal and not really worth the added expense. I went with the 1.86GHz and may upgrade later as prices fall. Also, if you order the minimum RAM configuration, and then buy your RAM from NewEgg, you'll save a lot of $$.

    Congrats to us!!! :D

I meant our configurations are similar, aside from the different processor speeds. Mine cost $2168 + $189 for 2GB of Kingston PC4200 RAM.

Okay, I see what you're getting at. You're right, Clevo is the ODM of Sager and Prostar, along with Hypersonic, Eurocom, and several others.

My only concern with the 5720 is gonna be its size. I hope it won't be too bulky or cumbersome to take to/from work several times a week. This is the first 17" notebook I've ever bought. If I'm not comfortable with it, I'll have to return it and opt for the Dell M70 mobile workstation or Sager 5320.

Yes - even if you do have the money, you are better off just getting the 2.0GHz. It really won't make a difference.

It's almost a dollar per megahertz when you think about it...horrendous! Amazing what a 130MHz speed increase can cost...

btw i opted for only 1gb of ram for now as the latencies are high as hell, I will buy 2gb next year when prices and latencies are lower :)

Wise decision. Yes, DDR2 has high latencies - my timings are 4-4-4-11. Compare that to DDR, which has a CAS of 2.5 or less. Pathetic! The one nice thing about DDR2 though, is that it consumes a lot less power - 1.8V vs 2.5V. Also has a higher bandwidth. I get 3018MB/s bandwidth with 1GB Dual-channel DDR2-533.

Anyways, I'll be interested to hear your thoughts when you get it! :)

2.13Ghz is, in theory 6.5% faster than 2.0Ghz. It all depends on how much you value 6.5%. I'd actually pay a lot to get another 6.5% out of the POS I'm working on right now. In 2 years will I will the 2.0 I ordered was a 2.13? Maybe.

No, you wont. In 2 years both will be outdated.
