AS5 is thermal paste that is believed to help dissipate heat more efficiently, compared to normal stock thermal paste.

Vista Ultimate because it's the only noncrippled version of Vista at the moment, with all features. Choose Business or Home Premium if you have more selective needs and won't need certain features.

Draft-n for better speeds and longer range in theory.

Only 64-bit operating systems can detect past 3GB of RAM.

Vista runs games a bit slower, and if performance is all what you're about, you should stick to XP because of the mature drivers that are on the operating system as opposed to Vista's immature Nvidia drivers.

I'd get 2 with XP, at least 2 with Vista. I got 1 2Gb stick of ram so I'll have a free slot for the future.

I did the same as well, I figured 2GB was fine for now and when the need arises, I'll just order another 2GB stick and make it 4. :)

rideexileex, who at your college was responsible for that free os program? Is there a name for it? What was the procedure to get the OS?

I'd like to check at my university but I'd like to have an idea where to look. The computing department, the library, the computer store?

Whatever your IS/IT/MIS/Computer/Tech department is called.

Ask them about Microsoft site licensing or volume/educational licensing...or the MSDNAA program, etc.

Your school may not allow access to non-Computer Science students. The licence that my university has will only permit them to give you access if you are currently active in a computer science course. They also only allow acces to the Vista Business edition, no Ultimate or Home. That might vary by school tho.

You're going to want to ask about getting access to the OS through the MSDNAA. If they don't have that, or it won't work for you, you might be out of luck. Try the campus stores, sometimes MS will give huge (50%+) price breaks for students.

Thanks. The MSDNAA is what I should investigate I think. I know about the rebates at the campus store but the only thing I'm aware of that they offer is a rebate on Vista upgrade from XP. I could use it but I'm in no immediate need of Vista so I'd rather live with XP and keep my money in my bank account. :)

But, hey, if I can get a Vista license for free by some means, I'll take it. Free is the word that hooked me! ;)

Congrats. You'll get your laptop sometime before the start of the next year.
