    Hi

I acquired a zepto 6224W and have been wondering if there was any way to overclock its T7300. I know that the idea of overclocking a lappy is reputed BAD but hear me first:

    - T7300, T7500, T7700 appearently have the same TDP (thermal design power ?) of 35W.
    - The cooling system probably remains the same for the three cpus, meaning my system could handle a T7700 if I replaced it. (confirmation from zepto =) ?)
    - In full load, I run RightMark CPU Clock utility and it displays 82°. I heard centrinos can go up to 110° (?)

Okay, there's quite a bit of uncertainty here but can someone give an expertize ?

And in case all this is not mere fairytale, how to actually overclock ? (any link to a tutorial with a recent lappy inside is welcome)

    Thanks for the help

    sorry i cant help you

    Firstly, a 2.33GHz C2D is not exactly the same as a 2.0GHz C2D overclocked to 2.33Ghz.
Secondly, the 110C is the limit for the chip itself, the laptop might get damaged after that, and the CPU automatically throttles at lesser that 100C.
Thirdly, the only way to overclock a laptop CPU is either to buy an overclockable one - with unlocked multipliers - like the 7600G (they are pretty rare and T7300 does not have this ability) or you should raise the FSB clock which I don't recommend at all.

    icy shower :S but thx
can you give more details as to why raising the FSB by a few MHz is not recommanded ?

As for the gpu, it hit 94°C sometime during a flatout2 game (temps obtained using nTune Performance). So I guess overclocking the 8600M is a big NO =(

Yeah but hear this: the downclocked 8600M (power saving enables / powerMiser) idles at 60°C (nTune). Is there any chance this value is incorrect ?
The laptop does feel warm though...and it's not the cpu (50°) nor the hard drive's fault (40°~).

ClockGen works with some chipsets but not, to my knowledge, the Intel chipsets. I once used to to raise the speed of a T2250 in the Samsung R20 up to 2.5GHz (FSB=800MHz compared with the default 533MHz for that CPU). It was start to get a bit hot at that speed but could have been left long-term at 667MHz bus speed. Even if the FSB could be increased, the 800MHz FSB of the new cpus wouldn't leave much headroom.

My preference is to accept the speed that I have, and try to get everything running as cool as possible.

do you know the PLL of the 6224W ? (I ran the soft, it seemed unable to detect it)

BTW, in many games the bottleneck is the GPU not the CPU.

ya my cpu runs anywhere from 40-80% during battlefield 2142

but i maxed out my gpu cuz if i clock it any higher, i either loose performance, or it causes my sysyem to crash....

    cheers
