You already have another topic running, why not ask these questions there? Prices drop naturally, predicting that is pretty hard. It isn't very old, but there are new asus models like the G1 that are 14'' and pack a punch (nvidia 7700 to be exact). What is your budget? I mean the price for the HGL30 is pretty low, so how low do you need it to drop?

The HGL30 was released in June/July '06. It is not an old system.

It's best to get the word directly from the reseller, but I would not expect to see any price drops anytime soon in the Compal line. I expect the resellers can control their inventory very well with whitebooks. Price drops happen when an older system is sitting in inventory and something new comes out--so the price drops help to get rid of the older stock. An example would be the Core Duo Asus W3J after the W3Jp refresh was released.

You have a better chance for a price drop with something like an Asus Ensemble unit or a pre-configured system from a major brand after something new comes out (like Centrino Pro).

Of course, memory and other components prices are always moving, so your prices will reflect those changes.

Considering I am patiently awaiting delivery on my new Hel80, I hope not any time soon too.
And it doesn't look like it either according to what Chris pointed out.

back in 2005, the EFL 30 (a 14") came out around July-August. Its replacement, the HGL 30 came around late July (I clearly remember because that's when I kept badgering Donald and ChemUSA lol). So it's a safe bet that the replacement of the HGL 30 won't be around mid to late Summer like the past two years. their 15.4" equivelents, aka the DL 70 and HEL 80 came in early Summer.

sweet, I only need one before university starts, so that would be a great time for the HGL30 to be replaced (you mean this summer coming up right?)

Yes, he is refering to this summer as a possible summer release date.. It makes sense because its the time when more younger people will be buying stuff...

If there's ever a chance to see a Compal get some price breaks, that would most likely be it. You may have to act fast though if or when it happens as I expect the resellers will anticipate the new models and start to cut back on ordering the old (so supply may be low by then).

LoL, no I don't work at either of those places... I work at Intel. Some of your posts remind me very much of this person heading to college next fall that has TONS of random questions about notebooks =P

Oh well, hopefully both of you are getting the answers that help you ;)
