    Hi guys,

I got my hands my Compal HGL-30 which I ordered last week from PowerNotebook.

Let me start off by saying that they have great customer service! I highly recommend them to anyone that is looking to buy.

After dialing everything in the last step was to change my background...when i switched to a plain black background, I noticed 1 red pixel 2/3s up the screen. It doesnt seem to go away, but is masked by the color of the background. I cannot see it when greys, whites, tans are displayed but can see it for blacks, blues, greens etc.

Has anyone else seen this? Is it a dead pixel? Any way to fix it?

I had my laptop shipped to my office in memphis to save on sales tax. My coworker brought it back yesterday, but had to leave the box behind as he couldnt fit it in his suitcase...i have all the other stuff though.

It's a fixed/stuck pixel. You can do a google search for fixes that you can try.

Massaging it gently may work, and there are a few programs out there that try to unstick the pixel. I think there's already a link to one in the Compal forum--you could try searching for it.

That sounds like a permanently lit or "stuck" sub-pixel.

There are 3,072,000 sub-pixels on your screen (1280x800x3=3,072,000) so one stuck one is not too unusual.

You can try massaging the area around it to get it unstuck, and there is a utility out there that some have had luck with (Google for it).

You will probably not notice it much after a while, but if it really bothers you let me know.

My personal tool for fixing stuck pixels and other LCD irregularities is this one.. it might also be of use for you...

    http://www.jscreenfix.com/

Good Luck, between this and a little massage and a little time the only stuck pixel I found on my LCD went away (maybe within the first week?)

I have had my desktop monitor for a couple years now and I figured the little red dot was a dead pixel.
After running the mp4 file in your link I found out that it was just stuck.
    Thanks alot!!

Got mine fixed a few moments ago, as well. Thanks for all the input guys.

i could not get the UD program to load (was getting a generic error) so i decided to research a bit more. I simply used my finger nail to press in on the pixel for a few moments and it disappeared.

it came back after wiping down the screen, but when i touched the upper corner it went away.

Glad to hear you've got it all sorted out.

Make sure you don't put too much pressure on the screen. LCDs are easily damaged.

I spotted 1 red pixel on my screen last night. Hopefully this will be able to fix my screen when i'm home from work tonight.

    Thanks :)
