hey guys my compal ifl90 is taking a while to hibernate/go to sleep/and sometimes restarts when i tell it to shutdown. i looked in vista performance menu and this was an an error listed in there:

any ideas on how to fix this? my bios and drivers are all up to date from the compal main site. do you have to completely uninstall all nvidia drivers before installing the new nvidia drivers? if so how do you do this. thanks

You SHOULD able to install the new NVidia drivers over the old ones, but it's worth a try to completely uninstall and reinstall. There should be an "NVidia Drivers" entry in your add/remove programs ("Programs and Features" in Vista) list. Once this is removed, uninstall from Device Manager, then reboot and install your new drivers. If this doesn't fix it, please let us know.

please uninstall every nvidia driver you see in add/remove program and use driver cleaner pro 1.5 in here
    http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745

however, other programs may be hogging your computer resources thus causing delay in windows restart/shut down. Take a look at task manager and under process section check through which program use abnormally high memory . Google it and analyze what is it.

btw what system is yours? if you could post little more information about your computer then people in here will be able to nail down the problem quicker.

    Havock:

Regarding the yellow "Unknown devices," did you reinstall Vista after you got your notebook? If so, did you install the drivers in the exact order listed on the Compal/Bizcom website? If you didn't, Device Manager can sometimes leave a random "Unknown Device" that isn't really anything, but that can't be removed without reinstalling or restoring back to a driver free state and installing the drivers in the proper order (this is a common issue with notebooks, and none of the factories I work with have ever explained it to my satisfaction).

Make sure to install the Smart Battery software package.
Install the Intel Chipset software utility.

the unkown device can be the smart battery, just check to see.
Driver free state can be done by selecting a recover point, to return to.

Echoing RePaRaQu, just use system restore to roll your system back to a point before you installed your drivers.
