hi all. been a long time since i rapped at ya. well, i found out how to solve a strange issue with the GF's laptop. her integrated camera was disappearing and reappearing seemingly at random from the device manager and was erratic in programs, working and then disappearing.
how to solve the issue? keep the laptop open greater than 90 degrees... it seems the ifl90 turns off the integrated webcam much before the laptop is actually closed, so if you keep the computer open more than 90 degrees, it stays on. anything less than that on her computer and it turns off, very confusing until you know about this issue. hope this helps some people having similar issues with their ifl90 or sager 2090 / 2092.

Are you sure that is not a connection issue? My webcam worked from 0 degrees to 180 degrees. The webcam doesn't disappear when inactive, the fact that it's completely gone from the device manager makes me think that there is a short or the cable is catching to something and gets disconnected in the process.

Ayle is right
That isn't normal... which means it might be tugging on a loose connection or a possible short. -
Yeah, that doesn't sound right. The only way the IFL90 knows the position of the lid is through a magnet, and that only has an effect at <3/4" open. I'd agree with the above posters, not normal and probably some loose connection.

the connection is fine... weird. so, again- to be of help to those who might also have this problem, please see my initial post for a temporary fix. i think i have seen others talking about this same issue, i wonder what it is? if anyone has any other suggestions let me know.

Hi there.
Sorry to pump this post again.
After looking for a while, I've got almost the same problem as 000111.
But, it's very strange.
Camera connectors are OK, both sides are plugged in. However I can't find it on Device Manager.
Before this began to happen, My camera only worked when the laptop was opened less than 90º and now It doesn't work at all, I've tried to reconnect and re-install drivers but nothing has changed.
Can it be that it is the wire which is causing the problem?
Thanks again, I will disassemble again my laptop to see...
EDIT: I was looking problems on the wire, and , while touching the wire, somepart of the motherboard began to fire and smoke went out. I think a condenser or capacitor (don't know how do you say it in English) burnt. So I removed the battery from the laptop. After a while I plugged it again and around 10 minutes of using the laptop it turned off suddenly (with the AC plugged in).
Then I removed the AC adapter and plugged it in again, and turned the laptop on. I'm now writing from the laptop having the camera cord unplugged.
Can someone post a photo of the motherboard showing the area of the fan (on the side where you connect 3 wires to the screen part).
I'm quite worried... -
Once you blow a capacitor, chances are it's time for a new motherboard (or laptop) unless you know how to replace the capacitor. It might work, but there's a good chance it will give you random blue screens with inaccurate error codes, turn itself off at random times and do other fun stuff. Without a new capacitor, that mobo's days are numbered...
I have a similar problem to others in this thread: whether or not Skype sees my webcam appears to depend on the angle of the display. I've moved the display back and forth from 75 to 105 degrees a couple of times and this seems to have fixed it for now, but chances are it will come back soon enough. Is there an easy way (i.e. without disassembling the entire laptop) to check whether the connections between the webcam and the motherboard are stable? -
Well. Some days has passed and no blue screen or strange errors messages yet.
If you want to check the wires, you will have to disassemble the upper part of the keyboard (I mean the touch media control piece) and the screen, nothing more.
