    Hello

    i need some help please.

i just assemble two new COMPAL HEL80 (Core 2 Duo T5600* and T7200*, 15,4'', NV7600, HD 100GB and 1GB DDR2 667MHz). I follow the video guide "Compal Intel CBB Barebone Notebook Assembling" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP5vyxXjHuo

So far so good. It was pretty simple.

The problem is when i turn it on, in both laptops, it get stuck in the phoenix technologies boot screen logo. Won't go further than that. Also the keyboard won't respond. And i really don't know why.

Any ideas?? Thanks in advance. Best Regards.

P.S.: I suspect faulty ram, and i'm using the same module in both laptops because i'm still expecting the arrival of other new module of ram.

Try a USB keyboard and pressing F2? Are you not recieving any kind of beep codes? You sure all the parts you ordered are compatible? Correct memory slot is being populated? Is there proper cooling? Maybe the CPU is halting to keep from cooking. Same with the GPU...

I'll bet he has an older BIOS that's unhappy with the Core 2 Duo. Can you see what version of the BIOS you have when you boot? If it's older than 103(I think), then you need to update that.

Great guess! Do you know if these boards support flashing without a processor? (I've had a few systems in the past that did). Otherwise this guy is going to have to get his hands on a newer chip, or try asking local tech shops if they will update it for him with a chip they have.

I've heard there's some kind of magic keycode you can do to flash from an external USB floppy drive, you'd have to search the back posts for that though. I'm just working on making a custom BIOS splash image for mine, so I may or may not have to learn how to do that ;)

    Hi guys

Was it the BIOS after all? I just built my (H)EL80 with a C2D T5600 and I have the same problem.

    Thanks

I just assembled my Hel 80 last night, and I'm having the exact same problem. I'm not certain, but I think it's because I'm using a Core 2 Duo chip, but the BIOS is older than 1.04(I can't actually tell which version BIOS is on it), which is the earliest BIOS to support the Core 2 Duo chips. Unfortunately I don't have a Core Duo chip, so I can't update the BIOS myself, so I'm taking it back to NCIX so they can update the firmware for me. Hopefully that will solve the problem. I'll let you know what happens, they don't expect to get the laptop back to me until next week.

I tried a USB Keyboard, and I couldn't get into the BIOS settings, still stuck on the Phoenix screen.

I just updated my BIOS with a USB floppy drive. I put on 112B. I did NOT need to change my CPU for it. I used the crisis recovery thing with the new BIOS, fn+b with the USB floppy, it flashed. It wouldn't turn on after that, so I waited a bit and unplugged the AC and the battery and it worked after plugging them back in.

After I read your post I tried the Crisis Recovery package with a USB Floppy drive, and it worked perfectly. I'm installing all my drivers right now.

You need a USB floppy drive, not a flash drive.

    Hello All

I must refresh this topic because today I assembled my HEL80 right here in Poland.
    My config is :
    HEL 80 w/gf7600 etc, Glossy WXGA+
    CPU: T7200 C2D
HDD: Seagate Momentus 100 GB 5400 rpm
    RAM: Kingmax 512 mb 667mhz

and I've got a problem. I'm stuck, 'coz when I first started my HEL, I saw Phoenix bios splash screen and I pressed F2 button to go with setup.
After quick look at the screen I realized that I have 114B bios version, so I said to myself "nice, my T7200 will work fine".

And then?? Everything stopped, BIOS was not responding, keyboard also, it crushed in BIOS. I restarted my machine and from that moment (7 hours) HEL80 isn't booting..NOTHING :( black screen , CTRl+ALT+DEL do nothing, I hear only HDD working and that's all

Can you help me with that? Or it's only way to visit reseller? or service?
    echhh.
