I think you probably have better luck wait out to see if Dell pull off another 750 stunt as they did last time, or office depot pulling another 599 deal or you could simply go with averatec or so if u want a budget computer cuz the brand and the specs they offered for that price is not very good at all, you can pretty much get a loaded one around 700 or 800 or so on ebay. Good Luck

If you're looking to go an inexpensive route but want a decent machine, checkout http://www.clearanceclub.com. They offer new and refurbished laptops. Prices anywhere from $899 to $2000 for relatively recent machines (1 to 1.5 yrs old). I have done business with them numerous times and they have earned my utmost respect.

    Hey mark,

I understand where your coming from regarding the wait for the rebate. As far as the dell one was concern, there was a coupon here that was posted like 2 weeks back or so in which there was instant rebate 750 off so you really don't have to wait anyhow to get your discount. I miss out on that one but I did manage to jump on office depot labor day sale when they have the mimimum spec zv5000z for 599 before tax and shipping. I got my rebate already on this spec from hp since their processing seem to be very fast. I don't know exactly on they type of notebook size and weight you looking for, but here a site that could help u on your search.
    http://www.techbargains.com/
They posted the newest and best deal from both laptop and desktop world. What I would suggest now for you is that if you looking for a desktop replacement, and don't mind carrying 8lb of weight with you here and there, then you could get a compaq r3000z. You can see this deal on your left hand side when u go to techbargain site. The specs on this deal is much better and the battery, if you go with the 25 dollar upgrade would get u easily 3.5 hours on amd processor. After all the coupon (which is also listed on techbargain site) and hp rebate(just go to hp print out their cool notebook rebate and send in) it should come out to be 730 or so depending on what you want to custom. You can also sign up for their academic purchase program to see if you can get some more discount with them if u still attending school. Sorry for the extensive post, hope it helps and if you have any question, feel free to post. Good luck.

ive never understood the point of destop replacement notebooks, they eliminate wholepoin of lapops, as they are way to bing to really go around with. if it s just gonna sit at a desk just save ur money and get a desktop.

so as a real laptop what can i do?

Well, you can either wait for another 750 off from dell. 2)Go on ebay and get either the 600 or 700m(just type either of these models in...and there should be like tons listed(most people bought these during the 750 sale and resaling it right now) for like 800 or 900 or so. 3)Go with one of the other models from compaq and hp that's slightly smaller. 4)Go with averatec for around 900 or so(this is like 4lb or so and u can get them at circuit city or pretty much anyway online). My last option would to go with ecs laptop, the specs are just not that good, even for that price, since if you think one year from now, you can't really do much with it. Good Luck.
