robocop,
I had to do this myself, cause I had the same problem too. Seems the settings are very...well, touchy.
If you go to the Control PanelMouseDevice Settings tabSettings button, this will luanch the Synptics Touchpad properties box. In there you can tweak everything for that touchpad. Theres some handy stuff in there! But what your looking for is the SensitivityTouch Senitivity. Raise the slider towards Heavy Touch, and that should do it.
You might want to adjust the Palm check as well, so it dosent move the mouse when typing.
Hopes this helps1

I bought the averatec 6200 series after Christmas. The touchpad quit working within 2 weeks. I took it back to the store and exchanged for another, and that touchpad quit working in 2 days
I called Averatec both times and they had me do the dance of using a restore point, reloading the system restore cd, etc.. They even went so far as to suggest that it was my insecure wireless connectivity allowing hackers and viruses in. It was like arguing with a 3 yr old. All that to say that I loved that laptop and am not happy that I had to scratch them off of my list of notebook suppliers.

I forgot to add that I had originally bought a dell 8600 for Christmas, come to find out that it was too bulky for my taste and had some customer care concerns. So I returned it and got the Averatec instead. Now that it has been returned twice, I'm using an HP dv series, which works great, is lighter than the averatec, has an hd monitor, and a much better remote control feature. Since my luck with notebooks is not that great I've come to find out that this model has an issue keeping the date/time set. So every so often I have to update the date/time in the bios or windows; which ever one I remember to do first. HP said updating the bios should fix it, and I thought it did until this morning. They are now stating the watch for future updates as they are working on the problem
