My question is this: can the unit be opened? Sure it'll

void a few warranties, but hey its $700.
What I proposed is that he buy this unit, and then we

head over to newegg.com and pick up a nice Athlon XP-M

mobile proc., maybe a nice 2600+ for $99. The FSB is

still the same 266 and they are obviously pin-

compatible, plus you get the advantage of a doubled L2

    cache...

anyway, im on the new lappy right now... seems pretty

solid, i installed AMD Powernow! to dynamically change

the clockspeed depending on how hard youre taxing the

system...should squeeze a lot more life out of the

    battery.
Averatec does NOT install this program, and theres sort

of a problem between AMD & Microsoft (the program wont

    install under XP...)

If you guys are interested, go to the AMD site,

download the powernow installer. Then right-click on

the install file, go to Compatibility, Select Windows

    2000, then run the install.
Reboot, then go into the Power settings in Control

panel. There will be a new AMD POWERNOW tab with good

settings in there for the system to automatically

change the CPU speed, thus saving precious battery!!!

    Give it a try!

I just upgraded the mem module to 1gb! I'm so happy

right now! System reports 992 available after the video

card occupies 32 mb of 1024mb.

    http://www.oempcworld.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?

    Screen=PROD&Product_Code=1.0G-SO2700

for 254.85. They have a 30 day money back guarantee,

but hopefully I won't be needing it.

i configured the video ram to 64 mb and it refreshes

    slightly faster.

    end of quote.

has anybody did hardware/bios tweaks and would like to

share w the community? i would be more than happy to

chronical it as a FAQ. i myself is the proud owner of

a 3220 for 2 wks and has absolutely FAIL to notice any

problems. and w the new microcenter deals, i am thinking to get one more. happy averatecs!

I've seen messages from other people in averatecforums.com on upgrading the hd, upgrading the dvd/cdrw combo to a dvd burner/cdrw. What I'd like to know is if there is a mini pci slot that can take a new video card like an ati mobility 9700. I think the broadcom wifi is in some sort of slot, but I couldn't make out the slot from the FCC photos.

    Hi Nightflow,
very few notebooks have the capability of upgrading the video, most times it is not even a card but only a video chip soldered down to the motherboard. If you have to ask if it's possible on your notebook then it's probably not because if it is upgradable the manufacturer makes a big deal of it in the spec and on thier website.

go http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=70 and choose an video for your os:
VT8373 northbridge on KN400 chipset & VT8378 northbridge on UniChrome KM400 then install at your own risk. this new video driver just released from via used in the 3200 series increase the open GL from 4 to 732 on a benchmark test. No, pls dont ask. i know nothing about "open GL", i think it is something similar to MS DirectX, about painting 3D object on the screen, i guess, the higher the faster refresh, uh? somebody wants to shed somelight for this?
