All the specs are the same, except that cyberpower offers a radeon 9700 128mb and averatec only a radeon 9600 64mb, cyberpower offers custom paintings. Who makes who ?

Uniwill makes the notebook.

Uniwill link below now puts the 6130 model (their 258SA(x) model in the 'past models' category.
http://www.uniwill.com/products/other/n258sa0/N258SA0.html
Their new comparable model has AMD and ATI 9700 graphics.

Is this supprising?
It's not too uncommon for a single maker to sell off to other vendors with a custom config. -
Has anyone bought a 6130 battery from uniwill? Theirs are 20 bucks cheaper than Averatec.
-
good question.
I think that will work, if you go on the averatec's battery properties, the battery name is 258SA0 (double click the battery icon in the taskbar, then click the #1 blue batterie). This is uniwill's model, not averatec. -
It's sad.. but Averatec and Uniwill in general just resell notebooks.
Their OEM partner is Trigem corp. (www.trigem.com)
But the good thing is, of course, that accessoires are the same.
-
good to know, I wasn't aware of this one.
-
Actually, that's not technically true. While there may be a loose affiliation between Trigem and Averatec, their laptops are not made by Trigem.
You may want to look into the ODM relationship further. -
Symbiont,
I admit I know little about what makes a ODM relationship, but it is interesting that the TG web site contains Averatecs models and press write ups as company news. Also TG shows a Averatec 5500 and a 6300 series in their "new products" link (http://www.trigem.com/tgproduct/new/new.asp).
Wipeout,
As for Cyberpower, I had them build a PC for me over a year and a half ago, and its been flawless. As far as them being cahoots with Averatec, it dosent seem likely as their more geared to custom config systems.

I was browsing another averatec forum
http://www.averatecforums.com/
and noticed that someone posted a link to a review of a fujitsu laptop http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/06/29/review_amilio_a1630/
does it look familiar? I wonder if the mobo will fit in my chassis =D and since mine isn't working right now anyway.... -
Good find !
It is very similar, but it has a few differences, the buttons for the touchpad are different, and the keyboard is different. I'm not sure about the chassis ... if it doesn't work, you're stuck with it... -
that fujitsu looks like the 6130 even the name A1630 has the same numbers as the 6130.
-andrew -
Yeah, it would really suck to have spent money for a replacement mobo (if I could even find someone who would just sell me a motherboard) and CPU just to have the thing not fit right. Although I did read a story about a guy who took an iBook and converted it into a tablet PC (he called it the i-Tablet) and I guess that would be possible, definitely a neat little project.
On another note, through my searching of laptops made by UniWill I found a few custom laptop shops that will actually sell you a barebones laptop if you choose, or pay them to configure it for you.
www.rjtech.com and also store.ekm.com
I think if I was looking to buy a new laptop (my averatec was a gift) I'd probably go to one of these kinds of sites and build my own.
two different brand, same laptop
