The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

Forgive me if this has been discussed before because I cannot locate that thread, but what the heck happened to www.averatec-forums.com?
    Thanks!

I knew that www.averatecforums.com went down in Sept or Oct 2007, but a new site, www.averatec-forums.com (note the dash) was built and seems to be suffering the same fate as the original. Wondered if it was legal action that took that forum down also? A pity. No wonder Averatec suffered (and appears to have been sold to TriGem?) due to poor customer service.
    Thanks

My thoughts... either 1) the servers that are hosting those Averatec forums are just as shoddy as the Averatecs they were meant to troubleshoot or 2) Averatec is putting way too much effort to take down peer support sites when they should be concentrating in improving their product line.

Probably just a really bad coincidence though.

OK basically this is exactly what happened to the old forums when a few owners were taking action against averatec. As soon as things started getting pretty heated the site went down saying it was temporary yet its been like a year. Now I haven't gone to the new one in a month or so but maybe its the same cause. Kinda coincidental that two averatec enthusiast forums are mysteriously shut down. The old site said:

"Due to a hard drive failure, the Averatec forums will remain off line until a backup can be restored.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Be back soon!"

That was about a year ago give or take a month or so. Be back soon? me thinks not. Server busy for the new one? me thinks not. Something fishy is going on and I think a certain company may be behind these shenanigans.

Well, for the record you are more than welcome to build your support forum within NBR. Averatec, if they are behind this, won't be able to touch this website.

Thats very nice to hear, as the first forums were a very good and informative site full of knowledgeable and mature members. Its a shame the site went down, but I think with what happened between Averatec and the owners left a huge percent with such a sour taste that they are/will no longer be owners. Frankly the only reason Im still an owner is because my 12in 2155 wont die. Thank God because I couldnt live without it.

My 3250 is still in perfect condition and runs like a charm. :D
I like it for size & weight issues. Not to mention, I have a screwdriver that will open the case and I'm **not** afraid to use it!

So is my 3250 ... still running .... after over 3 years of daily use. In fact I have two of them bought at the same time. The other one had to have the hard drive changed, otherwise running great. I even installed a dual boot XP/Vista on it. It IS underpowered for Vista, (still has the stock 512mb ram) but at least I can get familiar with Vista.
Of course, I am very careful when, for whatever reason, I have to remove the charging plug from the jack at the side ... no wiggling allowed. :D

My Averatec 1020 still works fine. I don't see why ever disses the little brands. Hell, Averatecs are pretty much rebrands too.

Well Mikey, you have never had to fight with Averatec tooth and nail to get your unit fixed. While I'm not dissing your opinion, I have. They are perhaps the least responsive product supplier I've ever had the misfortune of owning. Do I like the product? Yes and I'm typing this on it now. But all you have to do is have something go wrong and try and get support/repair (even under warranty) and you'll see what all the bad news is about.

    Regards,

Unfortunately this is all too true. Many Averatec owners that were on the original forum told similar stories and many had to resort to the BBB to get action. A few went as far as to find out the names and phone numbers of the Averatec "higher-ups" and published them on the forum.

The notebooks are a good product with very bad product support.

Sadly this was what contributed to the demise of the old site.

Don't you just love it when the support (not necessarily the product) is so bad that the customers resort to attacking the company and the company resorts to attacking the customer. I like my Averatec, the problems I've had were mostly my own doing and the solutions all came from forums like this.

Well, I emailed Steve Lam both here in this forum, and at the address listed for the domain name registration, and have not gotten any response. He appears to have dropped off the face of the earth, along with the forum. :(

Yeah, I did the same about 10 days ago and have not gotten a response either. So maybe Averatec is paying these people to take down the sites and keep their mouths shut!

Pity the company can't grasp the concept of customer service. Fortunately I am an "old" pc tech (dealing with systems dating back to the IBM PS/2) so I hardly use technical support. If I need to know/learn something, a user's group is much more efficient...

Apparently so. If you'd like to start again from square one, visit averatec.net23.net and let anyone else who might be interested know as well.

My averatec 6130 died soon after they started screening all post. Which just goes with how weak there support is. I spent more time on Uniwill/ECS forum and site ordering parts to keep it going. It was a shame I had a complete new case and lid before it just died. I just parked it an bought a MacBooPro and never looked back. Some day I may do some intense diag to see what died, but hardware was failing on many fronts. I lost k]no data, I had every thing backed up, beside I removed the HD and connected it use my usb adapter to gain full access. I should just part it out and recoup some cost.
