It seems they have raised the price because they are now selling it configured with a 3 year warranty and offering it separately as a barebones kit.

RK Computers has been offering the bare bone for a while. After the horror stories I have been reading at GoG.... I think if I was thinking of a bare bone system I would call Rob at RK Computers. He has been active in this forum when it was just "Other Systems", not even "OCZ." They probably pre-ordered the systems when the offering was opened. In fact, I just called Rob on a whim and he does have systems on order from a month ago coming in on the first shipment.

Waiting MONTHS to get this from someone else isn't my cup of tea. I'm glad I have my seat in the first row. Seems like there is no shortage of system builders out there. If I decided, "Hey world, I'm going to build this notebook and sell it as Shmoo Laptops!" Even when the second and third shipments come in they will allocate them to their best customers not the Shmoo. They are going to say, "Sorry Shmoo, we don't have any to allocate to you right now." Money talks... you know the rest.

When I ordered my system I asked about availability. Killer said, "Don't worry, I have been following this system for a while. When they were released, I ordered everything I could of the first ones coming into the country. No less than 10% of the total offering are allocated to me. My customers will have them first because I already BOUGHT them. None of these other resellers have 15 grand lying around to purchase inventory. They highly over rate their size and capabilities. They are nothing more than middle-men."

I was amused but took it with a grain of salt. He goes on about it a bit too much for my taste (So for Pete's sake if you call there DON'T ASK! Don't encourage him! :D ) I have to admit, everything I have seen, and everything I read before he was banned here was right. Hard to argue with that.

Yea I enjoy reading his rants =) I guess I have that kind of humour. He talks about it with such passion. Sorry to break into your thread.

Yes good luck finding this barebones.

hey, running gunner thanks for the link now i know where to get barebone laptop's :D very greatful i could see spending $1,700 on a laptop. i spent $2000 on my desktop. i look at it as if you want a good build and good parts then you got to spent the money. you might get a good deal on a good laptop. but as least with a barebone you know what parts are inside unlike premade desktops/laptop's i have always learned you dont need to spend tons of money to have something nice but if you have the cash and you want it then get it.

After the horror stories I have been reading at GoG....

What do you mean exactly by horror stories? It seems like the best thing to do if one were to buy a barebone system is to buy it directly from OCZ or another flextronics distributor rather than pay what boils down to a fee (Tax?) to a reseller for merely taking and processing an order.

So what distributor is selling straight to the public, OCZ?

Well, I guess that's the world we live in with barebones. If you wanted to buy from any distributor, you'd have to have both a business license and a resale certificate, and then OCZ only takes orders of 100 units or more. If you wanted to buy directly from Flextronics, they would probably only talk to you if you wanted to buy over 2,500 units.
