I remember when I had heard about the zepto 6214 I had wondered who manufactured it.
The zepto sales rep told me it was made by compal for zepto. I think its in some thread here.
But many months later a different rep told me this was incorrect so I went to the odm sites to look for a model that would fit
http://www.inventec.com/english/product_a01.htm
this is it, this is the manufacturer
here is a printout of the bios
http://linuxbios.org/pipermail/linuxbios/2007-March/019329.html
It does say model number inventec w14
but whats weird is it says the chassis is made by acer. Your theory is as good as mine as to what inventec makes and what acer makes.
The thing is, this model is the basis for the benq joybook. benq is part of acer. But the benq joybook looks significantly different. the zepto znote looks exactly like the inventec w14. What id need to see to understand fully is the benq joybooks bios.
What it more likely is is a complicated industrial thing where acer sold off an actual factory to inventec which was in the middle of production of this model. Inventec finishes the laptop project, it was part of its purchase from acer, this project and the factory.
also I can already tell you the pictures of the new model upcoming do not use this same chassis. The next model is made by inventec not made by acer.
\youlll note that the zepto znote says made in denmark on it. Now the laws of this labeling must be different in denmark than over here. I mean for instance a Dell computer does not say made in texas it says made in china
If the laptops are assembled from the bare bones in denmark they must be allowed to put that label on it.
But they are not made in denmark by any reasonable definition that is a stretch of the truth at best.
It sort of insults your intelligence I must say because even a very detached consumer knows consumer electronics are not made in europe.

And you're post being about..?
First of all, a simple Cpu-z run will tell that Acer is the manufacturer. Noone as far as I know have said that the 6214W is manufactured by Compal, however, I think some of the other modeles are.
I have known for more than 4 months or so that Inventec is the manufacturer of 6214W. This is no news (someone said so in a forum a long time ago)
Anyway, what is the discussion? That they claim it's made in denmark? They don't. Says "Assembled in denmark" on mine -
Well I didnt know the model until right now.
Might be old news to you then but useful to someone else.
The reason I looked it up was another znote owner told me it was made by zepto, and I know why they would think that because of the assembled by sticker.
he at least did not know it was made by inventec. -
True, but that goes for all manufactuers. Dell don't make any computers
For example:
* An ODM named Clevo makes the Sager NP5670 and the Alienware Area 51-M, the Voodoo MClass M550, the Hypersonic Sonic Aviator, and they are all the same computer. Clevo also makes the Sager NP8882 and NP8887 and the Voodoo MClass M600 and they are also the same computer. Of course, the Sager and GEN-X-PC models have a much sweeter price tag!
* An ODM named Compal (not to be confused with Compaq) makes some of the the DELL, Hewlett Packard and Compaq line of laptops--plus some others.
* Quanta makes many of the Dell Latitude, Lenovo (IBM), and Sony Vaio laptops.
* GVC makes the Micron Transport Treck and Treck 2.
* Inventec makes many of the Compaq brands.
* Clevo and Kapok make certain models of the Sager Computer. Clevo and Kapok are different divisions of the same company and are among the largest and best in the world.
* Other ODM names are Mitech, Kapok, Clevo, ECS, FIC, Twinhead, and Uniwill--just to name a few.
Not many people know who originally made their notebook. Dell, for example, has 100% outsourcing -
Since this zepto has a Acer motherboard
Is there any possibility do add a OSD for the laptop ?
zepto 6214 is inventec w14
