the ONLY way in which you will get surround sound from your laptop is via an optical cable

 is it so hard top understand what i am saying??

I'm not gonna buy a new surround when i have one, i just need to link the orange, green, black cable with the optical in (every 5.1 surround has this 3-coloured cable so there has to be a link)

Kingston, Im not sure but i think you are trying to connect your audio out on your laptop, to your component picture input or output on your surround amplifier/reciever.

Sound input on a surround amp=amplifier works in 4 ways.
    1. optical input (digital signal. stereo, surround 5.1, 6.1, 7.1)
    2. Coax/phono input (digital signal. sterio, surround 5.1, 6.1, 7.1)
    3. analog surround input (example 5.1 via external decoder, uses 1 coax/phono cable per audio line 5.1=6 cables.)
    4. analog stereo (2 channel phono red/white inputs)

Okay, im no wiz, so if some of above inst 100% correct or if im missing something, dont kill me. hehe.

But the orange, green and black cables are used to PICTURE not SOUND.
They are either the RGB or COMPOSITE inputs/outputs on your amp.

On the back of your amp, there should be loads of red/white (analog inputs), some yellow inputs/outputs, and your orange, green and black.
These are not the ones your looking for.

You should also find some other inputs, usually they labeled (digital in, optical in, coax in) or something like that.

Your Zepto has an optical output...
If your amp has an optical input.. it can work, but you need an optical cable.
See this link. It is a picture of different optial cables. The ones in the top left and buttom right of the picture, is the kind of cable you normally would need.

I hope this is helpfull to you

    Cheers :)

Nope sorry that's wrong, the orange / green and black aren't for picture, that's Red Green and Blue ports. Orange and black are for front and side surround and green is for normal stereo.

For example, this is a picture of a typical sourround Receiver.
It has optical, coax, hdmi, component, composit, s-video, and loads of analog.

Okay, are we talking about the inputs on a surround receiver, or a the inputs on the back of a computer.
On the back of a typical modern motherboard there are 6 audio inputs,
3 of which match the colors you are talking about. What does that have to do with connecting your zepto laptop to your surround sound.

Im confused, anyways, hope your figure it out Kingston21.

    Link to a motherboard.

Ahhh, Kingston, your have one of those surround speaker systems buildt for computer use. With 3 mini stereo jacks... If you dont see an optical input, you speakers are useless for surround using the optical out on you Znote. Sry mate, hope there is one, or you'll be looking at buying a new speaker system.

    Cheers

I'm a bit confused by all this, but can you not buy an adaptor which changes your computer's audio output to a cable which connects to your system?

Not if he wants surround sound from his zepto. The only way is through the optical output, and optical doesnt convert well to 3 minijack analog :)
