Hey guys, first off i want to say I have read hours and hours on this site and i have a question i just cannot seem to find a answer!

    I Have a CF-29 that i purchased, (Cf-29lqqgcBM) It has windows 7 installed.

My question is what is this wireless button on the outside of the computer next to the handle! I turn it on and off and my wireless still works, but it makes a sweet noise, is it just supposed to make a awesome noise?

And secondly my FN button does not work which I know is a common problem on these MK4. I am trying to get the correct driver installed but i am about to loosed all hope!

I have also discovered that i do not have GPS available on this computer :(... but i do have this awesome antenna that pops up 3 inches on top of the screen.. so at least i look cool sitting in starbucks, dose your mac have that!! I doubt it!!!

So I am currently searching miles and miles of pages on google trying to find my answers! If any one can answer some of my simple questions I would appreciate it!

    Chris

Would you suggest just going back to XP Pro?

    1. Function key not working.

    3. Wireless outside switch not working.
    4. No gps :(

    Number CF-29LQQGCBM

I was responding to CWB32 about my joke of getting a free toaster...

I thought it might end in BM not MB....
I'll get the factory specs now.
    Model Number: CF-29LQQGCBM
    Status: DISCONTINUED
    MSRP: $5,437
Description: Intel Pentium M 778 1.6GHzLV (Centrino),13.3" Touch XGA,512MB,80GB, Intel 802.11a+b+g, WIN XP SP2, Verizon EVDO, Dual pass through, No Drive

Rob can set you up with a recovery set...
Sadlmkr can set you up with GPS..

Function keys are a driver issue
Touchscreen is probably bad. Sadlmker can repair if you like.
Wireless switch may be a driver issue. Or a modified card. Probably a driver issue.

You guys are awesome! I have sent a message off to Sadlmkr, I am writing one up to Rob right now!

Should i be concerned on some programs not running on Windows XP? Maybe the reason windows 7 was put on?

Go with the factory restore of XP..
Once you get the hardware all working, then worry about programs.
There are plenty of programs that run on XP...Unless you are doing something odd..

Not really, touchscreen not working but that can be fixed...the 29 is a great starter Toughbook. Meaning once you get hooked on them you will want more :D . Also you might of noticed but we are a little nuts on here...it comes with owning a Toughbook :p

Thanks Guys, I think i sent my messages, just getting used to this forum!
Now is there a way i can connect to AT&T with this model?
I was reading I know some you can only go with specific companies, but here in California that should not be a issue!

with the WWAN working correctly there should be no problem in finding a carrier/provider .
getting synced with their system may be another story ...
the card in my '30 is not a new flavor and the front smiling gal at my local ATT/verizon store gave me the "doe-in-the-headlights" look when i plopped my '30 on the counter .
i *finally* talked with a guy that the second sales person called in from the back room .
this guy looked at it and promptly grabbed some box about the size of a cigarette pack and said that i needed it to be able to hook up to their system .
i replied "i-don't-think-so" and explained to him what the deal was ... he called in another guy from the back room .
a half hour later , my WWAN card was synced to their system .
to sum it up ; you may need to *educate* the hired help .

i went with derision ... errr ... make that verizon , because they have the best overall coverage in the US .

shawn : "There are plenty of programs that run on XP...Unless you are doing something odd"
blair : "Also you might of noticed but we are a little nuts on here..." .
what ?! you guys been spying on me again ?

Spying on you again? What makes you think we stopped? Actually you are just not that important....(inside joke)

CWB32..Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean we are NOT out to get you.....WE ARE....

    CF30 WWAN ..I "think" you need a GOBI 1000...

yep ... the gobi 1000 is what i wound up with ... not exactly a hot item by todays standards .
heh ... you should have seen the look on my GF's face when an extra 20 buck charge and third device showed up on the verizon bill .

XP will run great on a it,99% of programs will also run. Recovery disc is the way to go unless you are into banging your head on the table a lot.

I'd a paid money to see you flop that 30 on the counter and try to explain to the lemmings what you had, they can't think out of the little box.
