I am going crazy trying to figure out why some 1GB ram modules fail on the cf-29 mk1-3 as an example

If others here have maxed out a cf-29 with 1gb add-on mk1 to mk3 models
I would like to know the module used

    I have sold (3) 1GB pc2700 ddr1 ,none work

I don't see a bios update listed for the cf-29 that states ,support for 1GB modules

    All the 1GB sticks were tested with memtest86 and passed , and tested in a cf-18 mk2 , a cf-73 mk3 ,and cf-72 mk5
I don't have any cf-29's that use the old ddr to test

The cf-28's were really fussy when it came to 256 and 512 sticks
I have never seen a post on the forum stating issues with the 1GB ram incompatibility on cf-29's

    Has anyone had issues ?

I used this in a Mk2. Been in use for almost a year, no problem. The base ram is 256mb.

Hello Alex. This makes me happy. First time (maybe) I can help. I have an old
    CF-29EWPGZKM (1.3GHz)machine. 512MB RAM on motherboard. I added 1GB
    stick to it and works perfect. It's Crutial PC2700 1GB DDR333 CL2.5 200PIN.
SODIMM Memory Module. Got it at NXsource in Richmond. Expensive.
Paid $54.00 with HST it's just over 60 bucks. If you need one, I will be more than happy to get it for you. Regards, Voytek.

I went to a couple of memory manufactures sites
A couple had only 512mb listed as max, Corsair for example, so I think there is some issue with some brands that I was not aware of

Kingston lists a 1GB M12864C250 that looks like it will work

When I was upgrading CF-28s the only brand which never had an issue was Kingston. It didn't seem to matter whether it was "Value Ram" or not, the Kingston sticks always worked even when Panasonic said they wouldn't. I only have a MK4 29 at the moment, it and my CF-30 are running Kingston ram. The 51 has Crucial because it came with the CF-30 when I bought it. If I see a significant benefit to adding 2 more GB of ram to the 51 after testing I'll buy either Crucial or Kingston whichever is cheaper.

If anyone can post exact part numbers, it would help. The only difference I found between the Corsair and the Crucial/Micron is the timing.

    Corsair( VS1GSDS333)2.5-3-3.7
    Crucial(Micron)( MT16vddf12864hg-335d2) 2.5-3-3

    Trump info
    1GB 200p PC2700 CL2.5 16c 64x8 DDR SODIMM T005, TRUMP, ABQ, D1SC0816D

Is 64x8 High density? Crucial is 128x64. IBM thinkpads apparently have issues with the Trump memory also. They can run one stick but not 2 at the same time.
Arch memory doesn't sell their own mfged memory. Notice the "major Brand"
    archmemory 1gb pc2700 page

Here is the CF 29 page listing 1gb will work but no part number or link to buy the stick.

I been on this business(not really) for a while and I haven't encounter any problem on ram for CF-29 of any model. Any brand of Ram manufacturer. Except that the ram is defective. If the ram is known good to you I will then check the PC socket. It may be dirty or a few legs of pin are coroded. Dust also may coz the trouble or bended pin not allign to the its location. Maybe the ram is not properly installed or seated to its right position. Insert different module If it works or not.

Try the above mentioned trouble shooting before we go to any conclusion.

    Been there done that.
I pulled a crucial 1gb out to try the corsair 1gb in the cf29 mk3. I also pulled a crucial 512mb out of my cf50 mk4 to try the corsair and the corsair gave me a black screen in it. I also got a black screen in my cf50 mk2 when I put the corsair stick in it. All 3 have the Intel 855 chipset. I put my crucial 512mb in all 3 and they booted fine. The cf29 is working happily with the crucial 1gb in it.

Clean a bit the RAM itself with soft cloth and mild alcohol(of course on the pins both side) but make sure it dry and clean before to reinserted again. If it fail, throw it my way,Lol.

Tomcat... I too have recently had an issue with RAM in the MK1-3 models. I have had to stick with Crucial RAM. I bought several sticks of off-brand (Don't remember the name) RAM memory and had to ship new Crucial sticks out to a few customers in return for the older RAM. It worked great for me while loading everything... But when they received it... Things went haywire... BSODs or failure to boot. Take the RAM out... Everything works fine. ALL of them took 1GB of Crucial DDR PC2700.

NOW... With that said.... I have taken in several MK1 (CF-29s) that have PC2100 installed and they seem to work... At THAT time. I would assume that the prior owners had used them for years without incident. (I assume this as I sometimes buy in bulk and when you get 10 units in and all are setup the same way, you can just tell they have been that way for some time.) However... Shortly after setting up and updating XP Pro... Stuff goes haywire. Those were 512MB sticks though.... Not that it probably matters.

Stick with Crucial and you cannot go wrong. I just started trying G Skill and can report back shortly as to its stability. So far... So good. It is cheaper than Crucial and seems to be as fast.

Corsair does not recommend 1GB sticks in the cf-29's , obviously they have had returns and only list this 512mb as an upgrade in the ddr cf-29's

    Memory Type
    DDR-333 (PC-2700) SODIMM
    Size
    512MB
    Latency
    2.5-3-3-7

Yes this is the first time it's come up
The ram was tested with memtest86 , but on newer model cf-73's 1.7mhz

These modules are quite usable on the later ddr1 type toughbooks ,just fail when used on the mk1-3 cf-29's

It looks like Crucial is the most common ,and it's best to stick with confirmed working

The mk-1's work fine on the slower pc2100 , I had a panasonic branded 1GB module 2100, and it worked fine

Guys, is the Trump memory fine or not? I am about to buy 2x1GB of 333Mhz CL2.5 and never heard about it. So what can you say about this RAM? I found only 1 bad review about it on amazon but the same guy who told that he has blue screen with it wrote another one about HP RAM that sometimes it works sometimes it's not. So I don't know if to buy it or not. (Either I will buy it for cheap or I will not buy RAM for this old lappy at all...)

    EDIT\\\ It's part number is D1SC0816A-E
