    Can't find this one either

I tried putting is a 1gb ddr2 sodimm 667 in a cf-29ltqgzbm and it locks up soon after windoz (xp) is booted. Screen goes all crazy. From what I have read this size should work in the laptop. Removed and reseated simm and still locks up???? Brand is PNY.

You need a 1gb DDR2 PC2-4200 533MHZ CL4 at least that's what Panasonic recommends. It will be hit and miss with other spec and I think in your case it's a miss.

Always possible that your computer just doesn't like something about that ram card. When I went to buy a 2gb card for mine, the seller was keeping one and selling the other. The one he'd intended to sell didn't work in mine, so we tried the one he'd intended to keep. Worked like a charm. They were both 2gb ddr2. Maybe one was ECC and one wasn't, I don't know. But either one worked in his laptop, so go figure.

Like I said "hit or miss" now wichie before you run and get a 2gb stick you need to know that 2gb will not work on your unit. Someone here figured out by trial and error that 2gb will only work on the non-touch MK4 with 256MB onboard. yours having 512mb will mean you can only add 1gb.

Now the L3 should accept a 2GB as it has only 256MB onboard go figure

Close, but the only ones that have made a 2GB Stick work are folks with a Mark 4 or 5 and 256MB of system RAM onboard.

The fact is that Panasonic seemed to only make the 256MB boards as non-touch. I do not believe that is a factor in whether the 2GB RAM will work.

However, I intend to find out soon, I am converting my 256MB board Mark 5 to a Touch Screen. Fingerprints here I come!

It may have to do with the differences in onboard memory between the two units. Since you stated that the screen video goes all crazy it would indicate that shared memory is the issue. Perhaps the system can handle the higher speed ram but the video card cannot. This is just speculation based on the symptoms.

The touchscreen would not make any difference for the memory capacity. I just pointed it out because no touchscreen and 256MB on a MK4/5 seem to go hand in hand. Why? who knows.

is there any difference in the motherboards for the 1.6ghz units other than onboard ram, the L series mk4 and mk5's with 256 nontouchscreen with a do-able ddr2 upgrade will show 2gb in bios, as well as the rare S series(third letter) with a 1gb ddr2. the L series seems to me to have been an entry level, less frills and chrome so to speak, how many of these were produced, anyway to know from stats from panny? could this be a bios software thing only? any of you guys that have dealt with many autopsies on these laptops notice or know of mobo differences?......Driller

But please try it as you may get the magic stick that will work on the 512mb system.

It is a limitation of the chipset, if only the differences in the two motherboards could be compared we might figure out how to disable half, or even all the on-board RAM.

    Then you could have 2 - 2.25GB.

I have seen some sytems where if you add more ram than the system can handle, the amount of onboard ram gets ignored and the full amount of the add on chip will be reported. For example on the CF-M34 PIII 400MHZ which has 64mb onboard and if you add a 256MB chip then the system will report only 256MB. So that's why I think it is worth a try in case certain chips may act the same way on this CF-29.
