Hi. I have read through the forum and didn't see what info I'm looking for. I have a Cf-28 with 13.3 touch screen. I am wanting to get a 12.1 touch screen with the day light setting. Can I just swap in what ever screen I want plug and play style? Or is the MB different for each type screen? I have been looking over the service manual and I see 2 separate part #'s for the MB depending on which screen is used. I'm hoping it is something simple not a new MB to swap screens around.hahaha...Thanks in advance for any help.

First let me welcome you to the forum. I am sure you will find all kinds of information to help you in whatever project you have for your 28. As for your question, you could put a 12.1" screen in if you wanted to but you will need the bezel as well due to it being different from the 13.3" screens. You also didn't mention which particular model you have. The 600mhz model screens are not a direct bolt in due to the wiring being backwards in comparison to the 800mhz and 1ghz models. I think I did read somewhere on here where one of the guys unwrapped the harness and made it work but I am not sure. Good luck in your adventures.

I believe that the 12" screens have the same daylight capability as the 13", if the screen is both working properly and has the option. I had a 12" before, and it wasn't any more visible during the day than any of my 13" screens.
Having said that, What speeddemon said was right. Try to get one from the proper speed computer, because while I did make the connections fit by unwrapping the harness, I never did get to test it because of other issues I encountered in a test swap (Which I intended to finish this last weekend, but my server died and I've been trying to figure out it's problem).
So safe bets are that if you have a 600, get a 600 screen. 800 and 1GHz should be the same though.
Now if only I hadn't started drilling holes in my 12" bezel as a test dummy for GPS antenna mounts, I'd let you have it with a cracked LCD for cheap -
Yes... It's a straight swap. I have a 13" screen from a 600 on one of my 28s and it works fine... Just a little extra wiring you need to tuck in after rewrapping it.
I agree with Modly. The 12" screens aren't any better than the 13" screens in the daylight. As a matter of fact they are worse since the resolution is only 600 X 800... A very small screen. They go for cheap though... You can pick one up on ebay for under $75 if you shop it. -
My experience has been that the 12" screen is a little easier to see in daylight than the 13". I took a comparison shot of the two:

The one on the left is the one I use most of the time (std. 13" screen) and the one on the right is a 12". I don't use mine outside much, so I put a higher value on the extra resolution. I wish I could find a daylight-readable 13" screen! -
Welcome ABR.
If you plan on changing LCD screens you should read this first http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=198473 it might save you some trouble.
Im still looking in to some LED backlights that would give us 1000+ Nit and truly make our CF-28 screens daylight readable.

You might want to look into something like this as well or just replacing you existing backlight with a new OEM style.

Thanks for the replies.
Will a touch screen of either type 13.3 or 12.1 work on a factory NON-touch screen MB? What I'm asking I guess is if I can score a non-touch screen cf-28 in the 800-1g mb range can I swap in a touch screen with out to much hassle? -
Yes they are alo prewired for touchscreen so you can put one on a unit that was not equipped with it.
-
did you sort the light issue I am having trouble reading the screen it has a lot of shine and as it is used for mapping in daylight needs to be readable easily is there some way with background colours ? to brighten it just seems very faded picture compared to my other laptop screen
-
If you have a touchscreen there is not much way around that faded look. If your not dependent on the touchscreen you may be happier with a non touchscreen which is significantly brighter and crisper on 28s and 29s -
what about one of those old daylight screens that clip over I used to have one on a work ,what's that ,computer . It may stop the shine . The touch screen is useful in the car when its bumpy the mouse is harder to control.

Thats true I only need to touch it to save a waypoint or some such at longer intervals so it wouldn't impede and they lift up easily I am going to try the gamma tweaking etc to see how that goes. I also run an 8inch touchscreen on the dash connected to the laptop which is easy to read . Bit of overkill but
12.1 screen question
