OK so I woke up yesterday am and my touchscreen was not working. Checked FAQ and sure enough it was racing off to the side. Tried the toothpick but no go. With a little hesitation I opened it up, just the screen and its back. I'll make it short and won't talk about the removal of unnecessary screws and forgetting the latch with 1st reassembly and just say that disassembly must have released enough pressure for whatever it was to fall out because it is working fine now. My question is what is the best thing to clean the internal screen surfaces, reverse side of TS and actual face of LCD (DN alcohol?) and where is the best place to find replacement screws. I was very careful and all screws are present but I can see that there magical disappearance is possible. Also does anyone add extra protection to there toughbooks when reassemble; extra sealants, home made gaskets, thread lockers. Thanks

Use a soft cotton diaper and a can of compressed air to clean.

I have additionally hardened the exit of the LCD where the cables pass through. I have lots of extra foam pieces I have collected through the years that I sometimes enclose in the cable exit to help keep water out.

Additional screws can be had by fellow forum members or, in a pinch, sometimes at your local hobby shop as the R/C models use a lot of the same size screws. You just need to check the clearance of the screw heads on some of them.

Thread locker is a must, IMHO... Red threadlocker for the screws that should never come out and that you won't ever touch again. (Like the handle, if you take it apart to clean or flip the nylon inserts.) Blue threadlocker for everything else.

Its what we call here a touchscreen syndrone and wait a while it will be back again. My solution to the problem is bit hard and a lot work and hair pulling,Lol. You must have enough skill to do it. I've already posted this procedure somewhere using a heat gun or hot air from reflow station.

Great advice, but not all of us are young, or old, enough to wear diapers Rick...
