I have been searching this forum for compatibility information regarding the swap. I have a standard keyboard on my CF-29 now and would like to install a rubber backlit keyboard but unsure which is the proper keyboard. Which 2-ribbon or 3-ribbon keyboard will work properly in the CF-29? Thanks

The 2 ribbon will fit CF-27/28/29 and the 3 ribbon will fit the CF-29 and 30
    Read here
    RUBBER VS CHICLET STYLE KEYBOARDS

This seems to be a very popular issue with the CF-29; as was for the CF-28 before it:

    Rubber, Illuminated KB, CF-29

    Will a CF-29 keyboard "FIT" into a CF-28?

Both rubber styles will fit... However the 2 ribbon cable type are a little shorter than the three ribbon cable that was designed for the CF-29/30.

If you have a choice... Opt for the 3 ribbon cable.... IF all you can get is the two ribbon.... It will work in a pinch.

From a post in 2008. I was looking for one I read yesterday from TB that said the same thing.

Ignorance is bliss. Did the two wire KB's provide the back-lit feature? I assumed the third wire was for the lighting?

It's kinda like braiding...hook up the cable closest to the touchpad. Go over that one and under the other wide cable with the narrow one. Bend the narrow one back so the shiny side is up (facing you). Install it. Install the second wide one. Push down for a gentle crease in the narrow cable and make sure everything tucks nicely in the little slot in front of the touchpad as you roll the keyboard into position. Pull the paper off the sticky pads if you are sure you haven't left anything inside.

    Blissfully yours,

    Jeff
