Just got the ebay model, installed it in my cf-52. It isn't recognized in the bios so I must need to mod. What 2 pins did you solder together? What do you jump R2 to?

try this post, open the drive and solder pins 45 and 47 together on the inside of the drive.
dvd mod pins 45 and 47
r2 is on the factory Panasonic CF 29 caddy. You won't have it. -
Will this work on a CF-30!?
I have two more SSDS to put to good use! -

I have not tried it yet but it should work . Going to give it a try this weekend.....I hope

I soldered pins 45 and 47 together but still no luck. Think I may try one of the non-ebay caddies and see if they might work. BTW - I tried the caddy in a few different CF-73's also and it wasn't recoginized in any of them.

I bought three “2nd SATA HDD Hard Drive caddy for Dell 630m 9400 M90 F4” off eBay. I put 160GB Hitachi SATA HD’s in each caddy. The first one I put in a CF-29 and it works great. The second one I put in a CF-51, also works great. The third one I tried in a CF-74 and I’m having a problem. It shows in the bios like it should. The CF-74 bios shows the main 500GB drive and the 160GB in the DVD bay caddy. When I try to boot it defaults to the DVD bay HD caddy to boot. No matter what bios order I put in the bios, it still defaults to the DVD bay HD caddy. I tried the one that is in the CF-51 to no change. I realize the CF-74 had a SATA HD as the main drive where the CF-29 & CF-51 uses PATA drives. Could this be an issue? Any thoughts? Also, I checked all three 160GB drives and they work fine.

Have you tried starting the CF-74 with the drive out of the Media Bay, then "hot docking" it to see what, if any, error messages you see?
-
Yes, when I try to hot dock everything freezes. No mouse or keyboard, screen freezes in place. Cannot soft reboot. Crtl, Alt, Del does nothing. Have to power down with power switch.

Well, there's always:
SATA Hard Drive Caddy Adapter Bay DV-w28ec CD/DVD Drive
"It takes SATA Hard Drive, It works with SATA Hard drive, and SSD (Solid State Drive) as well." -
I don't see any difference between that one and the ones I bought. There has to be some reason why the CF-74 wants to boot from the DVD bay HD caddy instead of the main hard drive. Still looking for options.

Maybe they are both set as primary drive partition. Maybe try a boot manager to allow a dual boot machine.
2nd hdd caddy in dvd bay sata or pata.
