    Hello all,

I'm a member from a few years back. And yes, my avatar is the old school m34 that I bought right around the time I joined....came close to weeping when it finally broke down.

Anyway, saw some Panasonic 3Es at a garage/estate sale of all places. It's a panasonic netbook basically designed for school kids . Low specs, kinda cool looking though. I purchased the lot with them and gonna pick them up in a week.

The C1s have finally dropped to the price point where I can buy a used one, but it's actually too powerful a machine for what I'm going to be using it for. web surfing ,email, media player. Remember I used an m34 for years with no problems for the same purposes.

Wanted to know if anybody here has come across or used one of these 3Es?

you might try editing your post ... only part of the commands to post a picture are showing ...> "" <...

i like my 'C1 ... except for that roundy mouse pad ... what were they thinking ?
i do not think it too "powerful" , by the time one adds a decent AV/AM and a few other things to it , the extra horsepower is going to be required/utilized .
(i put a ssd in mine)
my machine is used when i need to take along something lightweight and the chances of beating it to death are small .
(think of it like a bunch of tools to choose from and "the right tool for the job")
the 'C1MKII is better than the MKI flavor .
the 'C2 is , according to many others , a better machine over all .

i have not had my hands on a '3E .
    sounds interesting though .
if they ever come out with a version of android that can be loaded on a PC machine , it would be a good device to have .

I want to use it as a netbook and sell this CF53.

i figured it was an online pix .

the guy couldn't figure out what the case was made of ...
it looks like a chunk of routered-out 1.25"-1.50" thick "glacier board" (aka : super high density particle board) that has an epoxy finish .
    (my best guess anyway)

Thanks for the replies and info, fellas

Great score to pick up those 3Es for cheap.....listing went unnoticed because the seller has them as E3s...or else I would have picked up 2 more at that price.

    Hey, Ken
Nice to see you back here.

A guy on ebay is selling the bottom half of a 3E for 19.50. I grabbed one of those to experiment with.

    @Springfield,

Thanks...after week 6 of the NFL season...I'll know what my money/time will look like for the rest of the year. :)
Cowboys are in disarray(again)...so Giants might have a shot at the division this year.

    @Ken,
Do you think the 3E and the Intel version are identical or just share similar specs and some components. I assumed that that Panasonic version is slightly sturdier than the others. Not fully or semi but maybe these are "somewhat rugged".

The Toshiba's may be slightly different as they were made for the Japan market only.

    ARRIVED TODAY.
I am using it right now. Win 8 will require some adjusting.
He included a usb to dc power cable. It is the correct size, but the 3E requires 12v to charge, not 5v.
So I will be splicing something together.
I like it. I can't manage to separate the two halves yet..
2 batteries, no gps, Broadcom wifi.
This thing might actually run OSX..hmm

Hard to tell. Ebay may have bounced him for a while for doing something dumb.
I am guessing Ebay did it because usually when someone quits Ebay, The closed listings remain.

Picking up items that I won tomorrow. Going straight to post office to mail the 3Es to kid relatives. They should receive them right before school starts, their parents will be surprised, and I can cross them off the Holiday gift list.

Shawn, glad everything worked out for you. Ebay is very pro customer, so had the seller pulled shenanigans...it would have been more trouble than it was worth it for them.

The 2 batteries were definitely a great feature when I looked up the specs. How is the keyboard size?

One battery seems to lose charge while setting. Not sure if it's a bad battery or what.
Win 8.1 is ok. You must install Classic shell. http://www.classicshell.net/
I need to turn auto update off.
I increased the font sizes to 125%. Much better for old eyes.
Firefox 55 works fine. Used Moxbackup to restore my profile.
    The touchscreen is very responsive.
The touchpad has buttons built in. That is the entire pad clicks when you press the very bottom.

At some point I will open it up and experiment. I want to know if I can put some sort of SSD where the WWAN card goes.
I have a mini pci type SSD as a second drive in my Motion C5v. Maybe I will pull it.
I really like having the keyboard attached compared to the C5v without any physical keyboard.

Overall it is very nice as a netbook type of device. I need to try out the cameras at some point.

    Tweaking win8 tonight.
Started with full charge on both batteries.
Almost 3hrs later and battery 1 is at 100% and battery 2 is at 23%
That on screen always popup keyboard had to go.
Must be a util somewhere to easily control that.
Had to manually set brightness. That auto dimming was constantly changing.

Mailed the Panasonics off today. Hope to pick one up for myself in the near future. Will make do with the current semi rugged toughbook I'm using. Will read this thread as a heads up about what to expect from the 3E.

One under the LCD portion flap and one on the corner of the keyboard bottom section.

    Shawn,

I've never heard of 2 charging ports on a computer. Might be a silly question, but if either charging port is plugged in, both batteries are charging, correct?

So, ideally you wouldn't want any broken charging ports but you could work around it?

The usb to dc power cord that came with yours, that was for the keyboard, right?

Both charge ports charge both batteries--one at a time.
The usb cable thingy would plug into either the LCD or the keyboard. But usb is only 5v. These need 12v to charge properly.

Yes you can work around having one of the charge ports broken. Just use the other one.

This is a great start on how to use the device, thank you for posting the link for
Operating Instructions, 2-in-1 Computer Model No. 3E just copy the link below into your browser and it downloads a pdf file:
    ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/computer/3e/3e_oi.pdf
Still looking for detailed instructions on how to boot into alternate boot order, it seems like more than one method works?

you can go into the uefi menu and *permanently* change the boot order or press "F11" during boot up and select a "one time" first boot device .
