I think I'd like to get into the uefi menu and change the boot order there. Can you explain how you were able to achieve this? Holding the shift key during restart does not help me.
F11 did not work for me during boot up.

Power On with Delete button pushed allowed me to get into Bios Menu.
Quick Boot is disabled and Boot Order is: USB HDD, USB CD, USB FDD, SD CARD, eMMC CARD 0ISK, INTERNAL SHELL, WINDOWS BOOT MANAGER, USB LAN.
....leaving for 3weeks on the road and will call Lefty for further details on a live usb version for “paintball from Modesto”...

mine has (ahem) *hot pink* dots on the "F" and "J" , hot pink "SPACE BAR" on/takes up the space bar , hot pink "L" and "R" on the sides of the pad and is hot pink number "19" (twice) .
maybe it was a *blue oyster* special ?
the paint (i am thinking dry erase) is coming off slowly with naphtha .
i knew california was a bit overboard with protecting people from themselves and that consequently people become unable to think for themselves (you can breed smarts in or out) but this is ridiculous .
and i wondered why/thought that it looked like it had been un-boxed and sat on a shelf ... looked absolutely brand new .
the answer was right in front of me all along .
i might have to ask jeff for a stick once the bugs are out of the set-up ...
a mennonite minister friend of mine would like to try one out for use in "home schooling" ... however ...
with all of the spying stuff , viruses and such , he would like to go with a 'nix OS .
and to be honest , i have a little problem recommending W10 in/for this application .
so much for my plans to sell the unit and pull a pontius pilate .
(it is ok to plan the plan , just don't plan the outcome)

So I wound up with 2 of these, one came with Win 8.1 Pro installed and the other is bare blank drive. Everything works on the 8.1 unit, only Panasonic driver seems to be sound. For the blank unit I tried installing Win 10 32-bit. It seemed to install ok except no keyboard, touchscreen, or sound. So I tried to re-do by installing Win 8.1 Pro, but that asks for a key. Thought these had 8.1 originally and would automatically validate. What's the best way to get win 8.1, or better Win 10, running?
-
Did you try to install the OEM version of Win8.1?
-
Nope, Win8.1 from MS site. Where is the OEM version?
-
I downloaded an all in one iso file.
Check the usual unnamed sources.
This may help

The key embedded in bios is the same for all units of the same model. Just saying....toughasnails likes this. -
yep ... i used the "downloader" at/from the M$ site , selected the OS required and built/burnt an .iso file to usb and loaded it (performing the appropriate tricks in the uefi firstly) .
(the link is elsewhere in this thread ?) .
not sure here , but something about the os version matching the imbedded activation code comes to mind ... the downloader from M$ takes care of this .
i loaded firefox on a stick , installed it and then installed "7zip" .
from there , i went to the intel site and dl'ed the drivers (there is a bundle available but i like to load only what is needed) .
i cannot recall if the validation happens on-line with the generic ethernet driver before the "real" driver is dl'ed and installed .
the MS version of an AV/AM is automatically installed and activated ... you might want to turn this off and install something else .Shawn likes this. -
hey ...
i have noticed that some of the ads for these units (especially from modesto) mention office being installed .
it would make sense to have MSO in the school units .
could it be that the embedded blanket license(s) will activate a copy ? -
run belarc and see what it tells you.

Just ordered an Intel Classmate...under the name of a 2go pc NL3. Wanted to pick up the 3E from the same ebay vendor that a few of you used, but didn't want a wiped machine.
First non-Panasonic computer that I will have owned in years. -
Totally different computer, sorry.
-
the Classmate had 2 versions.
-
I had the version above, it is like a CF-19 with a swivel screen and is surprisingly heavy. Works fine, however.
-
I had a cf-19 when the m34 started to show signs of age.
It was a lot bulkier than what I imagined. Maybe I ordered the wrong model #, but for what I was using it for.....the m34 was just a better machine. I ended up selling the 19.
I get that the NL3 is not on par with the 3E...older, less powerful processor, etc. Just that it's a variation of the Intel Classmate. I think 4-6 different "brands" came out with them. -
got the NL3 today
heavy rugged and sturdy like an m34
gonna get the nl5 ,which is a closer comparison to the panasonic 3e ,next -
They run very well with an ssd and are surprisingly well built to be able to take rug rat abuse.
-
Safn,
It's hard for me to believe that this heavy thing was designed for a school kid to lug around . I grabbed the handle and started doing curls when I unboxed it.
To the guys who picked one up,
Is the 3E closer to fully rugged or semi rugged toughbooks?
Also how well do they perform? -
The 3e is not fully rugged but is built pretty good, I wouldn't be afraid to drop it. Lighter than the NL3. They are quick as they have a 64gb SSD and 2gb of ram. Runs Windows 8 or 10 decently but they are 32 bit and must be gpt partitioned, so no Linux or Windows 7 although sheepman got Linux to sorta work.
You can put an SSD in the NL3 to kick it up. -
updates?
-
What kind of updates are you looking for ?

When this thread first went up, I read that a few school districts were using the 3Es but were running into technical problems.
They say that's why there were so many of them up at the auction sites. Specifically, the keyboard dock is supposed to have been giving people problems.
Was wondering how well these things have held up since guys got them. Haven't had any problems with the NL3 and in fact, just gave it to another cousin.
I think most school districts have switched over to chromebooks now, so I expect the last batches of these 3Es to be up for auction soon.Last edited: Nov 23, 2018 -
Finally got the 3E for personal use. For size reference, I took a picture of it next to an m34Shawn likes this.
