I bought these off ePay and installed them without a hitch they were to "find the drivers already in XP" but did not find a driver. I had found this: 3cmpci and installed that. The Antheros portion (wifi) works fine, the ethernet port is OK BUT the modem does not work. I did the unknown device find driver and selected the 3cmpci driver but no joy. Am I missing something? The 3com card shows as an unknown device in the hardware portion of the system folder. The stock cards (reinstalled) work fine as before.
    Any thoughts?
Thanks for any help- perhaps a large hammer?

    Fred,
We need a few more details. When you tried to make the modem driver update to the 3COM driver what message, if any, did you get? IIRC the only time I ever had the 3COM card not self detect was the last couple of CF-28's I put together where I loaded XP SP3 from the start, one of those Windows doesn't want to let you decide which driver to install. Kind of like HAL and Dave.

This is a "no brainer' but the modem card MUST go into the slot closest to the side and the modem in the middle slot.

You may also want to go into Device Manager and uninstall the modem and let it reinstall after you swap cards...

there was not a message just at the top of the dialog box for the " add hardware " proceedure it said "unable to install driver for "unknown device" click finish to exit.
It is installed in the outer slot and the wifi card is in the inner one
The LAN portion of the 3com card worked as well as the new wifi card, only the modem portion of the new 3com card would not work, it would seem if the LAN would work the modem should as well or is there a different driver for the modem alone?

One driver should do both LAN + modem on the 3COM combo card. It does have 2 sockets, one for LAN cable and another for phone cable, right? Definitely try deleting both the LAN and modem/unknown devices in Windows device manager. Then turn off, remove the card, and boot up "clean" without it. Then turn off again, re-install the card, boot up and let Windows pick & load the driver. If it still doesn't work, it could be a bad card.

Windoz always loaded the right driver automatically for me, 4 of 4 times, using 3COM card model 3CN3AC1556B.

Is everything enabled in the BIOS?
