ah crap! I got my hopes up and forgot to check if it was 2.5" or 3.5" :(

I do, however, see new 80 GB 7200 RPM 2.5" hdd's on eBay from time to time

I know nothing about these guys, (contact listed as walkietalkiestore.com
824 Woodland Court Coram, New York) but they are still advertising 2.5" Seagate 120gb 7200 8MB PATA IDE Hard Drives at 69.30 Sterling, which is approximately US$106. As of Thursday 15 April, 2010, they say they have 100 in stock. Allegedly, they also have the Hitachi 2.5" 7200rpm PATA IDE 60GB Hard Drives in similar quantities at US$87.

Somehow I doubt it, but it may be worth a try (they accept Paypal so you should be covered).

I find the 7200rpm drives to be much more important, speed-wise, for the CF-28 and models of that processor speed rather than the CF-29 where the processor and RAM picks up the slack.

When I tried a 64GB SSD drive, it was a NIGHT and DAY difference from teh 7200 RPM 320GB Seagate Momentus. It is difficult to believe until you try a SSD how much faster everything moves. If you can afford it, a 128GB SSD with the Cooldrives adapter to go from SATA->IDE/PATA

    works very very well.

I currently run the Seagate 320GB in SATA and though it was a tight fit, it works out very well with the caddy, so I am not real sure you need an IDE drive. However I have had good luck on pricewatch.com you can find some fo the larger PATA drives there still for small bucks.

Lately the egg has had pretty much the best prices on the WD 2.5" IDE drives, better than the used prices on flebay. HD tech has come a long way the last couple of years. As I understand it the newer 5400 drives almost equal the performance of the older 7200 drives. They use less power too.

More on this in the CF-29 F.A.Q.
