8GB RAM Win 7, Win 8, 8.1 x86

Using this Guide and a Video I was able to use 8GB of RAM in my CF-52P Win 7SP1 x86 Toughbook. There are also guides for Win 8 and Win 8.1.
It will also allow you to use almost 4GB instead of 3.1GB if you only have 4GB.
After I set it up I booted into the patched Win 7 and got a BSOD. I then rebooted into Win 7 and uninstalled the Intel graphics drivers. Rebooted into patched Win 7 using the default MS VGA drivers and it worked. I then rebooted back to Win 7 and installed the XP graphics driver (Run as Admin) for the CF-52. Got a message about newer ones and installed the older ones anyways. Rebooted into patched Win 7 and BAMM there it is!
I used the PatchPae2 updated version found near the bottom of the comments by maxdm April 16, 2015 at 9:34 am. Then modified the commands in the readme to reflect PatchPae2 instead of PatchPae. I also modified the command bcdedit /copy {current} /d "Windows 7 (8GB)" instead of "Windows 7 (PAE Patched)"
Its mostly a matter of copy/paste. I pasted my UUID (big long numbers/letters) into the commands found in the readme so pasting would be easier.
Lots of good info in the comments if you need help. This laptop does not go online so I should not have to patch again but if yours downloads MS updates and it stops working just patch again as the ntkrnlpa.exe and winload.exe gets updated now and then. If that don't fix it then uninstall the update and hide it.
In msconfig you can select the patch Win 7 to be default OS and in advanced system settings/advanced/startup and recovery settings you can set the time to display list of operating systems. I set mine to 3.

PAE patch updated for Windows 7 SP1

Note: An updated version for Windows 8 is available.

This patch allows you to use more than 3/4GB of RAM on an x86 Windows system. Works on Vista and 7, has been tested on Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP0 and Windows 7 SP1. Instructions and source code included.

Note: I do not offer any support for this. If this did not work for you, either:

• You cannot follow instructions correctly, or
• You cannot use more than 4GB of physical memory on 32-bit Windows due to hardware/software conflicts.

To remove the patch:

1. Run msconfig, click Boot, highlight the entry named “Windows 7 (PAE Patched)”, and click Delete.
2. Delete the files ntkrnlpx.exe and winloadp.exe from C:\Windows\system32.

Year 2015. Why do you still use 32-bit on modern PCs? ))

 

I'm not getting into that debate again....

 

I have software that wont run on x64. XP mode does not work. Many have tried and failed. The software maker wants you to buy new subscription and upgrade. Nothing wrong with current sub.

After playing around with it I discovered you don't have to uninstall the Intel graphics driver which also uninstalls the HD audio and Turbo Boost. After the XP driver extracts itself to C:\util2, open Device Manager\Display adapters\Intel HD Graphics, right click\ update drivers. Click Browse my computer for driver software, Let me pick........, Have Disk, Browse to C:\util2\\drivers\video5268\Graphics and select kit25020.inf. Then reboot when told. That should just update the graphics and nothing else.

 

in reference to 32 vs 64 ...
yep , program/file/data compatibility .
M$ says unless you have many applications/files/systems that will tie into the 64 bit flavor of MSO ... install or stay with the 32 bit version .
in other words ... load the 64 bit at your own risk as once a 32 bit file is "converted" to run on 64 bit it is a one way street .

 

What 64 bit? No one said anything about 64 bit.

I'm going to install 2x 8GB modules in CF-19 MK5. 8GB is not enough.

 

I started with Win 7 x64, 8GB, and Samsung 850 Pro 512GB and could not get certain software to install no matter what I tried. Install as admin, run as admin, run in XP SP3, SP2 compatibility, even XP Mode. SQL Server 2005 which the software installs would fail every time aborting the setup. I tried for a week and several others have been trying with no luck. I had to revert to x86 and software installed without a hitch and wanted I to use my RAM. Even the recovery disk would hang telling me to please wait as I posted in another thread. With x86 recovery disk the please wait message went away after about 20 seconds.
