Hi,
I'm considering to upgrade my cf19mk6 to either a cf20 or cf33 within the next 6 months,
even tough I have not yet fully come to terms with the strategic move from "tank" to "prosumer tablet"...but that's another topic.
Sounds easy enough ... but those who know me, also know that I am running Qubes OS,
which is a tad bit more picky about hardware than your average Linux distribution, especially regarding pci bus layout ...
==> Could someone who already owns/works with a 20/33 please fire up a linux live cd and copy&paste the output of these three commands?
Thanks in advance!
- dmesg # shows detected hardware in general
- lsusb -t # details on usb bus layout and devices
- lspci -tv # details on pci bus layout and devices
regards,
Karl
EDIT 2017-08-18: Some nice guy from Panasonic Europe booted up Debian on a cf20-1 and cf33-1 for me. I have anonymized the output and attached it to this post.

You only need this part I guess for running Linux:
ID 5986:0656 Acer, Inc
ID 5986:0689 Acer, Inc
ID 056a:0148 Wacom Co., Ltd
ID 0eef:c066 D-WAV Scientific Co., Ltd
ID 10c4:ea60 Cygnal Integrated Products, Inc. CP210x UART Bridge
ID 1199:9041 Sierra Wireless, Inc.
Debian runs fine and Ubuntu also. You will need to change the DPI because 1920x1200 in 10.1" is too small. Firefox is ok after DPI change but Thunderbird doesn't really play nice with custom DPI (combination of small and big fonts). DPI issue you have it also on FZ-G1 because you have the same resolution.Shawn and Karl Klammer like this. -
Hey tomcatsniper, thanks.
I actually need the whole shebang, as Qubes uses VMs for everything and hardware can only be assigned based on PCI device.
Your Debian/Ubuntu info makes the dmesg less important.
E.g. my Touchscreen and WWAN card on cf19mk6 share a single PCI device,
thus I have to decide between WWAN@sys-net or Touchscreen@dom0, can't use both.
See http://www.toughbooktalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3176 for way to many details. -

extensive research suggests that fully rugged 2-in-1 tablets might be a dead end.

I've already resigned myself to start stocking up on CF-31 and 19's as my budget allows.

The stocking up thing would also be my intial reaction, but it doesn't seem sustainable.
(what good will a cf19mk8 dock be 7 years from now?)
Does anyone plan to migrate to some other brand?
Getac?
cf19 -> v110? http://us.getac.com/notebooks/v110/features.html
cf31 -> x500 server? http://us.getac.com/notebooks/x500-server/features.html
Maybe even - and it's hard to say that - Dell XFR?Last edited: Aug 20, 2017 -
I suspect that in 7 years I might still have use for the current incarnation of CF-19 and 30's if all I do is web, mail and sysadmin work like I do now, though things may change.
