I ordered a mk2 CF-27 off eBay and it arrived today and I have a few questions about it.

Firstly, it arrived broken. It won't start up at all and I have come to the conclusion that it's the PSU (I can smell burning from the power jack after charging). Are the PSU's on the 27's notably unreliable? I was surprised to find it faulty after hearing so much about their build quality.

Also, I read a post about how waterproof the rubber keyboards are and a few of you said the regular keyboards (which I have) aren't too good in the rain. This could be a bit of a problem for me as 1. In Britain you don't have to go too far to find rain ;) and 2. Before reading it I left it out in the rain just for a laugh. It doesn't seem any more broken than it was pre-soaking so is it a bad idea to get the keyboard wet?

When I rang the warehouse to arrange repair I asked if they knew if there was a touchscreen in it and he said there almost certainly won't be however he didn't seem to be too much of a toughbook expert so I'm a little dubious about that. Is it possible to find out if their is one or not without knowing the exact model number? I can't find it on the bottom (the sticker must have been removed) and I can't check it in the BIOS because I can't power it up. The only distinguishing feature is the internal modem sticker which, I assume, means I've got the highly sought after internal PCMCIA version. (I hope so!).

Lastly, it has a square missing (seemingly cut out) from the back port cover exposing the modem port. Is this supposed to be there? I don't see why it should as it ruins the water and dust resistance of it.

    Thanks!

    Hello... Hello... Hello... Hello...

The PSU's should be fine... it may be possible that the PSU still is fine and that the DC jack on the laptop its self is bad, so check that.

Regarding the Touchscreen, you really really really would need to know the model number :/. Once you get the model number then you can use config.toughbook.com to get the info on that laptop.

Regarding the modem port - CF-27's and 28's did that for some STUPID reason... I donno what you could do about it other than fill it with silicone (which is what I would do because who the hell use's a modem these days anyways!?!?!?!)
