The MK4 is finally up and running, The MK-7 works great with Win10 64 so it's time to give it a bit of attention. I see a number of CF-19 GPS kits on ebay, however some of them claim they are for Mk1-7 others Mk4-6, some only 1&2 and even ones that claim all the CF-19's so I'm a bit confused. My Mk4 gets it from a Gobi 2000 so I'm even more confused..

What do I get to give the Mk-7 GPS capability..

If it's a factory style GPS the units got better as time went on.

Also people have made their own kits though the years to retrofit gps on these units.

On the GOBI 2000 it's using cell phone towers to find a position, not GPS satellites. Two different systems.

That's not true. Gobi 2000 has Standalone GPS, which works fine, but sometimes can't fix sats.
I would recommend to upgrade to Gobi 3000 module and use it's GPS (4/5). Or install any cf-19 GPS module. They all work same 4/5. Both will have difficulties in heavy rain+mountains, forest.
The best way is to use external USB GPS receiver based on modern chipsets like ublox M8030. 5/5 :))

I was thinking the dedicated GPS didn't come in until the 3000 series. Must be the 1000 series I was thinking of that didn't have the dedicated GPS built in.

You really need to watch what kit you are buying on eBay. Most of the sellers on there don't know anything about the workings of a Toughbook. I know a lot of kits are from the MK1's that I looked at on eBay and yes they work somewhat but get the newer models. They are a lot more accurate .
