Hello guys new here, any one ever try/thing of adding one of todays tiny web cams to the top inside lid of a cf30?

Ok I know there is no room for a small bug inside of the units. (proble #1), If one could stip the covers off a small cam and drill a lens hole on the top bexle some where. (Proble #2) how to get the feed line though the hinged cover to a usb port.

Well, I attempted this awhile back...One thing I found out is that no retail webcam will fit. I have a Tupperware full of them as proof.
Best bet is to get an oem one from a scrap laptop or fleabay. Then all you need to do is figure out the 4 usb connections on the cam circuit board.
I was figuring on putting the cam under the hinge cover at the bottom of the screen. That's where you will find the most space.

You have to buy a webcam that fits in another model... HP or the like... I want to say Onnirakiss did this and maybe someone else. I want to say they fit one also into a CF-29... So a CF-30 should be a breeze if you have the schematics...

What is inside between the hinges at the bottom of the screen??
If it is empty then the guts of this might just fit.
    Logitech about $20

Hot glue in place and then find a free USB to connect it to.
By the way welcome to the toughbook forum.
Inquiring minds is what makes this place work.

Nope won't fit,, That is where the back light inverter is

Realy enjoy reading the post here, I am a new owner of a cf30, It has a lot of updates already so i was just thinking of someting to help keep it more curent is all. I am not big on web cam's but I know if it was added to this old unit with w7, 640HD, GPS, wi-fi, lite keyboard, touch screen with 2 docking stations. It might last more than a few years around the retierment home... Ok maybe not to embarrass me when my daughter (how is a IT wizz) comes around.

I love the concept of build it tough and with plenty of power.. MORE POEWER - MORE POWER . I am kind of a "Tim the tool man" brain set. I have a lot of history with fabrication/welding but recenly got into plastic welding.

Hope to add to the forum...

Perhaps You can change the ccfl tube of an Lcd into an Led that's what I have done now. Just burning into a few hrs. to see the reliability. Its incredible, the white color are amazing. No yellowish or redish color.
I will post in a separate thread later on how to and where I got the materials.

All great pionts, will look into it more.

Todays led's with the new CREE elimet are amazing. White light with a low power draw and tremendous lums. But I was just hoping to go with a better/newer cheep cam modual with a low light funtion operation. Lights would be like way to cool.

Ok more light on me will not hlep my ugly face.....

Plastic welding can be lots of fun. I have done a lot of custom stuff for my truck.

Don't worry about people and the comments about slow and ugly Toughbooks. When it gets bad, just take the CF30 (while it is running) and use it as a hammer to beat their laptop into tiny bits. Then continue working on the CF30..... :D

It's no longer "My dad can beat up your dad" It's My Toughbook can beat up your .....Mac, Dell, Hp,.....
