I have a CF-28 I bought used that I mainly use for running a GPS program in my old land rover. Wife just got me an Ipod and I want to use the laptop with it but I don't have a USB 2.0 Can one be added to this discontinued model?

Yes, you can. Just buy a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card for your laptop, that is what I did for my cf-28.
this is a good start to look from: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...0+pcmcia&Submit=ENE&N=0&Ntk=all&Go.x=0&Go.y=0 -
Unfortunately, I have yet to find a usb2.0 card that fits completely in a PCMCIA slot so the door will close.
I've seen hacks to shorten one of these cards, and I'm considering hardwiring one to several ports on the network/modem panel. -
ipod works fine from usb 1.1 only takes longer to sync itunes

Have you guys heared about the MINI-PCI 4 port USB 2.0 Module. I try to look on ebay but i can't find one. If it does exist, it can solve our problem of making USB 2.0 to a toughbook like cf-28 and cf-m34. It only require available mini pci slot, since cf-28 has two we can use the other for this module. We can install bluetooth, wireless lan or any hardware that need a usb 2.0
I finally found one here, is the link: http://www.ieci.com.au/products/Product_Page2.asp?Product_ID=3530 -
i seen the minipci usb cards on ebay, there dont come by very often, but when there do, there normaly go for 20quid max,
i'll take a look and see if i can find one elswhere and will let you know........
about the pcmcia usb card, best way is to hack the card and make it sorter, i did it on a belkin card i bought of ebay for afew quid just to put in a mac i was selling and it work out fine................ -
I guess the issue here is not if you can put them in but can you make them water-tight? Do they make watertight USB connectors?

I forgot I had this but found it when going through my piles of computer stuff in the basement. If anyone wants to try it let me know, I'm open to trades
It has a big lump at the end that would have to be dismantled and rewired if you wanted to try hiding it in the third slot.
