What is he charging now for the cable. I may be able to save you some money.... I have 500 feet of RG-174 and 150 right angle MMCX connectors!
Let me know... He used to charge upwards of $85! (His way of saying he didn't really want to do it?)

It's a passive antenna and would never fit in the stock location. I would think it would be too big for the LCD mount.

But Cadillac was correct about trying other types of GPS engines... We probably should... But when you have something that works well.....

You may want to post this question in the main forum so more people see it.

Look for cf-18 aftermarket gps mods posted by ohlip, as that is the closest to perfection that can be done at this time

I beleve that the cf-18 and cf-19 have the same internal conections to interface with the gps module

I am going to mod my cf-19 soon, but when the smaller Sarantel active sl-1204 is available

Actually, the CF19 is Ohlips next project. I would send him a PM before you begin because I don't think the setup will be the same as the 18, but I don't know that for sure.

The actual wiring should be easy. According to the schematics I have... CN27 is used instead of CN18 in the CF-29... The connections look to be about the same. The pain will be fitting the antenna in a place it won't break off. Or you may have to buy a housing so he can mount it in... I'll have to check the diagrams to see if there is even a part# for that.

Other than the link for the USGLOBALSAT gps and the Jim D Gray antenna, I'm not finding much in the way of instructions here? am I missing it?

I just got my CF-28PCJGZEM, CFVKBL03 keyboard, CFVDL01 monitor and CF-WEB273 dock, and I am wanting to mod this laptop out as much as I can afford. I would love to have a working GPS in it!

I'm not sure what is meant my "RIM Daughterboard" or "RIM Card"

Is the USGLOBALSAT GPS engine the best one to use for my laptop?

Is the Jim Gray the best antenna?

what else is needed and where can I find instructions on how to install this and get it working?

One more thing, I notice my dock has an RF antenna connector on it. could this be used to increase GPS or wireless internet reception? this system will mostly be used in my vehicle, with only the laptop coming out of the dock when I use it in my garage, back porch or throughout my house. I need as much help as I can get on GPS and Internet reception in the car as it's the hardest to aquire there...

thanks for any help or advice
    Kyle

Although the CF-28 didn't come with WiFi, you can put a mini-PCI WiFi card in it. If your computer also has the factory antenna mounted inside the display upper left corner, you can mod that antenna to work at 2.4 GHz and then use the dock's antenna connection to attach a vehicle external antenna for "wardriving". More info on that in this thread:

I'm no expert on GPS, but others should be chiming in on that ....

ETA: OEM antenna is on the left - D'oh

OK on my display in the upper left corner (I'm looking at the screen while typing this, screen is obviously open and standing straight up, and the TOP LEFT, if I reach around to the corner protector, basically behind the file and edit tab, there is a bump that protrudes out of the corner protector. is that an antenna for wifi? :wideeyed:

No, that's where the little retractable whip antenna would be if you had one. Let me know if you want one.
