When my current camera blows up, I'll have to look into buying one of those.

Very nice. I'll try to keep it from getting dropped into a pitcher of beer though. That's just alcohol abuse.

    Pretty cool! ToughCam!

Speaking of that... Has anyone thought about modding in a video cam into the bezel of the CF-28/29 yet?

Just curious... I have a neighbor who has a kid going away to college next year. Since he will be traveling all over the world as part of his studies and his laptop would be exposed to some pretty harsh conditions... I recommended a Toughbook... I told him that I would look into building him one. He is a only child and I'm sure the parents will be crawling the walls without him around. They mentioned doing the Internet video cam thing to bridge the gap. Anyway... Just curious. I would think it could be an easy mod if one used a USB type camera... Then it would just be mounting and hooking up the USB to an internal spot.

I'm also looking for THIS camera. Because here in europe i did'nt find a seller.

@toughbook: Yes, i tried to insert an piece of an normal usb-cam into the displaycover of my CF-29. I have an 13" display. There is no place for such a thing in the cover, except on the bottom between the hinges. If u have an 12" display, it could be easyer.
The best way could be to get an defective noname-laptop with integrated display-webcam to switch this part...

TB - Yeah, onirakkiss is right -

A regular USB cam is not going to be small enough; the ones they build into Apples and other laptops for webcam are uber-tiny, and then there's the issue of figuring out a possibly non-usb/non-standard interface... I tried this with several salvaged cams on one of my L700s; I never could get any of them to talk to my laptop. I imagine nowadays you'd be more likely to find one with a real USB interface tho...

Isn't there something small and tough that can be mounted on the top edge of the cover where the RIM antenna is sometimes found?

Screwed, clamped, and/or glued and the cable fished down through the cover to a USB connection?

I'd want it in the bezel around the screen. SOmething like a small cell phone camera. The quality is not 100% with me... As long as you get a pretty goo picture. But then it's like Mnem said... Trying to get them to talk via an interface.

    Hmmmmmmm

Damn, why i'm so stupid and did not found this modules first? Maybe the wrong search-string on google....
On the first look i mean, they will fit into the location between the hinges.
Thank u kingstu, but next year i'll give u an response if they fit into the cf-29.
In the moment she is using a "Microsoft LifeCam NX-6000" - normaly very good picture, on skype very dark, bad software, will only fit to snap on the right wlan-antenna, with a useless button on top for MSN - not for snapshot.

Nice, but of course I'd have to break out the Krylon to get it in the same cammo scheme as my CF-28 is ;-)

Interesting! I just put in an Olympus Tough 8000 camera in for a PO. Maybe I should just wait until the Panasonic version comes out.

And as for the Apple iSight, the built-in ones are USB. So says the one in my Macbook Pro.

While I do drive a retired cruiser, and I work in the law enforcement field, I am not an officer (although I was for about a year back in 78-79). I don't have a mount in the Crown Vic, and probably won't since I will be selling it soon as I bought a 2002 Trailblazer and will do a few things to trick it out (spotlights, pushbar....and one of my Toughbooks).

I forgot to add into the thread. I've had an Olympus 1050SW for 5 months now, and it's very nice. I take it out in the rain, and treat it rough, yet it takes fantastic shots.
