I bought one of these: Panasonic Toughbook CF-18DHAZXKM CF-18 CF18 Touchscreen | eBay

It has a broken battery bay so no battery will work with it, but that's fine because it will always be plugged in anyways.

I have one main concern: How do I waterproof it from the elements if there will always be power and an audio connection going into it??? :pat: Ideas? I will be to lazy to remove it every stinkin time I'm done with it... Also, is there an easy way to mount it on the wall outside? (It's concrete). I was thinking either heavy duty valcro on the bottom of it or I can sink 1 or 2 concrete nails or screws (Probably screws) and just hang the thing from the carry handle...

I will take pictures of the complete setup later today :)

Blair, I see why you would think that, but it's HONESTLY not the reason I made this thread! I simply wanted to show you what CF-18 I am using without having to explain myself lol. Anyways, here are the photo's!!!

I'm going to be put mull tracking up for that ugly wire (I ran out) just like the rest of the speaker system is!

    w00t!

P.S, this is only the start of my crazy life with Toughbooks and my own home. I live in a large apartment... Can you imagine what would happen when I buy a large house???? :D :D :D :D

can you mount the cf-18 inside, safe, and out of the elements and then sync it to one of those Mobile data wireless displays, cf-vdm07. Then youd have a table top control panel like in them rich folks houses.

Isn't this destorying the point of having a Toughbook in the first place? I mean you could just sync a wireless display to any computer, and thereby save it from the elements...

A more wallet-humane method could perhaps be to use wireless speakers instead. I don't know what you should do with the power though, but if you always need to have it connected, doesn't that protect it enough?

By the way, what is the program that you are using in the pictures?

    Rob,
Explain the bucket. You could wrap it in burlap. Or as we in the west say "put et in a gunny sack".
    How's the headache?

secretly stashed in the bucket is a list of things Rob wants to do before he kicks the bucket. The words "I do" begin a series of complicated events that are biologically encrypted and hard wired in his genetic code. Little does he know of the turn of events that are about to befall him. Many tried to warn him of the outcome of hasty decisions even though he seems to think he's in control and fully aware of his choices. Rob, we wish you well and hope you never sober up. You don't know a person till you've met them in court someone once said, be it a tennis court or whatever. We will miss you, however your wife's aim will only improve as my father-in-law once told me and since we know again she carrys a knife and a gun ..... well the rest will soon be history..Driller

Thanks guys! I'm alive and well. Much better today. Yesterday was HELL! GOOD LORD! I had to drink a beer to feel better yesterday. I had a blast and everyone was beyond wasted...

I will probably type up a synopsis of what I pieced back together from Saturday night soon :)

    Happy 4th everyone! :)

Back to the topic at hand, I always just assumed that the power input plug formed a watertight seal with the socket on the 18/19. Is that not the case?

Either way a small bead of silicone carefully around both plugs would do the trick, or waterproof grease if you want something less permanent.

Did you really pay $350 bux for a broken CF-18D?

I don't know... You would think it would but I'm sure it doesn't. Thats the only issue with Pannys claim to fame is that all the port covers have to be securely closed whilst spraying with a hose :D

HELL NO! Haha, but they are selling all day long at that price :) lol.

Go to Radio Shack and get some COAX sealant. It's a thick rubberized putty used to seal connections on coax for TV and I used it for satellite installs. It's water and weatherproof.

Ever used self bonding rubber tape? Along the same line but more like a thick putty... It'll stick to the surface of what is being sealed to waterproof it. It's pretty inert after that. ;)
