Might I also mention that in the BIOS it says that it has GPS but neither me nor my guy Jack can figure out how to enable it.... Also Streets and Trips 2007 is loaded and it can't find any GPS receivers either. Also there is a button to the right of the GPS light indicator and it seems to just bring up a program and not do anything at all...
It also supposedly has a HDD heater, Blueteeth & WWAN too, of which I can't figure out how to enable the blueteeth or WWAN either...
P,S the model says IX605... -
Whats showing in device manager
Expand the com port tab
Gps will show up as a simple com port -
Alex, I checked that already and there are only 3 things in there... COM1, COM2 & COM4... nothing in regards to GPS...
-
Com 1 will be the 9 pin legacy serial com port ,that is on the back or side of the laptop
I would guess its com 4 then
Set the software up to look for the gps on com 4 as a starting point
It will probably be @4800 baud as well -
For sure COM 1 is the serial port (duh lol), but see the software that's on there when I click on the "scan" button it doesn't find anything.
-
Alex, when changing to 4800 should it be
8
none
1
none
? -
Manually select com 4 and set 4800 for the baud rate then
If that does not work
Download one of the many small gps utilities that we use to how connection status ,satellite in view etc
Yes
8
none

TopCop1988 Toughbook Aficionado
; but are they " lit"?
BTW: GD refers to them as "Integrated task lights".
They also have a true "Backlit Keyboard" with Touchpad, no less; but it's USB. -
Alex, I've got nothing here in regards to the GPS...
I'm using the utility that comes with S/T 2007... nothing...
-
GPS info or GPS viewer are some of the many programs I use
Free to download off the internetz
WinFast Navigator as well
Xp has a built-in program called HyperTerminal that will show info streaming -
-
I'll trade my backlit rubberized keyboard for one.
GPSInfo will search for the Gps. Download gpsinfo.exe.
Good luck.
Jeff -
We have a few of those that came with a proprietary system we bought at work. If I understand the GPS correctly on the ones we have, they have an external antennae that is built into other hardware that attaches to the laptop. I don't know if there are other models available with internal GPS or not.

Jeff
Thats only a good trade if your keyboard has a crack on it
If you look at Robs pics , at least one is all marked up ,like Robs countertop
Rob, you should really look at buying a sheet of laminate and some contact cement and fix that table -
That table works just FINE for me... it's wood and it's scratched up... so what??
Also that winfast navigator didn't do squat!
GPS = FAIL on this model! -

Jeff standing by with the hammer. -
I have 2 of them... one has a hairline crack one is perfect...
I'll sell em... is $500 reasonable?
This guy that brought em to me was like - just buy em! They're way more powerfull than a CF-30... you should be able to sell em for $1500!!! I was like yeah right!
Him: "just buy it, they're better than the Toughbooks"
Me: "no way in hell! so what if they're more powerfull they're still NOT a toughbook!!"
Him: "But so what, they're better so they're worth more!"
Me: "worth more to WHO?!?!? There is no demand for these things!"
ehhh!!!!!!! -
I'll pass, General Dynamics needs to stick to building ships and airplanes. That piece of junk won't help their corporate image at all.
-
